The DC United take on LA Galaxy tomorrow at 7 pm. We dont have any home brew but if you want to leave the kids at home at come watch the match drop me a pm. We have plenty of beer on tap and a foosball table for halftime matches. You are responsible for your own dinner. We will have snacks and beer but not much else. If you are intersted PM me.

And lets not try to turn this into a "I hate soccer thread".

Change of plans. Have a chance to go to the game, so I will probably be heading into the city.

and don't tell me you actually expect Beckham to play do you? He is the most expensive bench-warmer I have ever seen... but at least he looks good. But seriously, I doubt he will play, but it is the first time in DC United history that a regular season game is sold-out! Have fun!

Sounds like Beckham might come in as a late game sub. Either way, the atmosphere should be great with the big crowd.

I was hoping for a little home brew and I would of brought a couple of pizza's from Sal's.

Hey I know you will have a great time at the game :)and I bet Beckman plays at least for a little bit.

    Have fun

Not going after all. No homebrews left. Unless you want to drink the Red we JUST bottled less than 5 minutes ago.

And I dont expect Beckham to play for more than a few minutes if at all. He is listed as questionable for this game. I wanted to go more for the atmosphere. And that ended up being a reason we didnt go. Too many people wearing their new becks jerseys, not knowing a thing about the game, complaining that becks isnt even playing. That and we didnt want to pay too much for tickets.

Okay, some time I want to come over and watch a game with the soccer enthusiasts...you guys can explain the finer points of the game to me that I may have missed as a keeper so that I appreciate it...I know from experience once you understand the little things about any sport, it gives you a greater appreciation...so i'm open to it :)

I hadn't considered the "how many touchdowns do you think Beckham will score when he gets in" crowd -- maybe the atmosphere won't be that great after all.

When we went to the home opener some one actually asked me how many quarters were in the game. I had 2 problems with that soccer is only 2 periods of 45 minutes. And if you use the word quarter the logical answer will always be 4.

I think it will be alot like the Nats/Giants game on Tuesday. After the game a survey was conducted everyone answered that Bonds hit his record breaking homer(756) but less than 3 percent knew the score of the game or even who won. Nats won 8 to 6.

I actually stayed up for the entire game (nice late inning rally by the Nats). Nats winning 3 - 1 in the 8th today for anyone who is interested.

From the Boston Herald, for good measure:

"In San Francisco, thousands of soulless toadies took great delight in Bonds' tainted achievement, but beyond the bay, the moment was met with almost universal disgust. Perhaps the only legitimate record set last night was: most eyewitnesses to a crime in human history."

Anyway. DC looked flat tonight against one of the worst teams in the MLS. They need to step it up a notch if they are gonna be in the payoffs this year.
I think this game will shut a lot of the beckham heads up. He played, they lost. It will take at least a year for the Galaxy to be anywhere close to playoff contention...with or without Becks.

I still think what Bonds accomplished is remarkable, tainted or not. Few players have ever been as dominating as he has been, and you can't attribute all of that to steroids.

Anyway, I actually watched most of the soccer match tonight. I have to admit there were some fairly exciting moments. I suppose the slow pace of the game makes the scoring opportunities more exciting...perhaps the better word is drama.

    Skull -

I think you and all the other real soccer fans know as well as I that any MLS team will "look flat" compared to what you would typically see in the Premiership, La Liga, etc...

I've been impressed with Fred and Emilio, hopefully they'll stick around for a while.

I don't get the Bonds-hating. People can like him or not, but if that's what people think is the worst "crime" in history, then I suggest they go back to college for a little History 101.

In 50 years, I bet every major athlete and most people will be "performance enhanced." If they could take away the side effects, who would not use something to make you better at the game, life, etc.?

By the way, GO DC UNITED!

I just added a quote from the Boston Herald about B.B. I really didnt care one way or the other if he used steriods. Not my call to make. But to take a half an hour out of the 5th inning of the game on tuesday to see him, his family, people he met once etc....etc...etc... parading around AT&T park in the middle of the game tainted my view on him and MLB in general.

Jamie Moreno is one goal away from being the MLS all time goal leader. If he he scored that goal tonight would the MLS have taken a half hour for some spectacle that means nothing or would they have waited till the end of the game(and until becks had his interview) to celebrate?
