Just looking for some customer feedback on Direct TV and DishNetwork in the Broadlands/Ashburn area.

What the cost is for installation?
What is the monthly charge for HD Programming, Movie Channels VOD and DVRHD services?
Is there an additional charge for multiple rooms?

Before I cancel ALL premium services with Openband (not including our SW HOA payment), I pay an extra $129.00 per month to Openband who redefines the concept of HORRIBLE service, NEVER follows up and yet year after year DEMANDs an increase in Monthly Charges.

I got Direc TV for the NHL and NFL packages since Openband doesn't have them..I've since gotten HD and premium channels with DTV, and literally stopped using Openband because the DTV picture quality is so superior....You can get free install, free hd box, etc. now, just head to dtv or best buy....right now the HD package is limited, I think it's $10 a month, but they're launching over 200 hd channels in Jan/Feb....DVR is only 5.99 a month for all TV's, but you have to pay extra for each box, 4.99....

I think that is taken out of context.

They do have new sats in place.. but those '200 channels' will be alot of LOCAL HD network channels. That's why to get HD locals here you need the newer MPEG-4 boxes. Do that over the entire country.. and you see where '200' easily comes from :)

The new MPEG-4 system gives them alot more capacity, but alot of that is being taken up by HD locals

Just going from what the DTV guy told me when he was here last week...He said new DTV channels that I'll be able to get with the new hd dvr and dish they put in, I doubt they'd offer locals from out of the area to us.....I haven't seen any announcement yet though...

I had DishNetwork before i moved out to Broadlands..and LOVED IT. i was so "peeved" when i learned about my being forced to accept open band as my cable provider. of course--they don't see it as forced--b/c we have the ability to still have dishnetwork. what a joke.

    Joerig -

Quick question... how much is your monthly Direct TV bill?

I'm with you regarding the OpenBand cable (or whatever you want to call it). It is TERRIBLE!

    Thanks!

I hate the idea of having to pay for two packages just in order to get a decent set of channels with a good picture:

OpenBand TV currently offers 139 channels.
    (103 content & 36 music)@ $59.09 plus 5% franchise fee of $2.96. (Includes one set top converter box or "STB") = $62.05

That basically sucks when compared to the open market but hey, what open market. Ok, so we recently got VOD service, but really, how many people really wanted it and are actively using it? It is another revenue generator for Openband or at least could be. WRONG FOCUS!

Right now, if you get DTV or DISH, the one with the most HD content is DISH. They took over all the previous Voom HD channel and now offer a little over 30 HD channels (not including locals). I think both are equal in most categories but I would give the edge to DTV in Customer Service... hands down.

So for now, I have Openband because I would rather fight them for what I am paying for... and to demand they get better and offer more. I refuse to pay for both. I am not motivated enough for NFL to buyDTV for that.

    My 2 cents worth :D

No they will not offer the other locals to you. But you can see how hes not lying, but not really applying to you either. The annoucements are everywhere, just gotta look in that area of nerd-world :) The MPEG4 cutover is to break out of DTV's capacity issue, but they still haven't really addressed their larger lacking of HD. Cable beats DTV in selection of HD in most markets. Here, they are close, with some on one side and not the other.

Lol....I was up on all of it when it was hackable, lol....I just took what he said with a grain of salt, since when he came to fix my issue without me being there, all he did was change it from 1080i to 480p to clear up my problem, which didn't...all I care about is Fox Sports NY and MSG in HD, but DTV will never get them since Cablevision own's them..though 24 in HD is worth it....: )
