    Hello All.

My family and I will be moving into the Broadlands (Southern Walk) in the next month. We want to have DirecTV installed, since we're hooked on our dual-tuner TiVO box. Does anyone have tips on how best to run the wires into the house? Can I have the wires spliced into the coax that's already running through the place? Is there a particular DTV installer who I should request/use?

The house is a Cedarwood, if anyone has any really specific thoughts.

Thanks in advance for any help.

you should be able to use the existing wires.... hopefully they have 2 x RG6 into each outlet and some type of structured wiring and you should be set it up like you want... Sucks you'll have to pay for openband's tv as well :(

    Good luck!

Boomer is right. Make sure the cabling is RG6. Ill also add to make sure you ground your antenna "Properly" and provide a drip loop. Minor details that can save you headache in the long run.

If your house is wired like ours openband currently uses the black coax in the patch box for the tv. The white coax is currently not used in our house. They said it was for Closed Circuit TV. You should be able to tie directly into that one with no problems. If you have both the white and the black coax boxes in the patch panel they should both be rg6.

Thanks for the replies so far. Another question: I think the openband box is in the garage. Any thoughts about ways to hide the wires as they run around the outside of the house and the best place to run the cable through the wall?

I want this to look as custom and seemless as possible. I'm sure my new neighbors have no interest in seeing wiring when they look at my house.

ouch, the box is in the garage? I've only ever seen the box in the utility room in the basement next to the electrical box. As far as hiding the wires to the dish go I'd probably try to stay along the trim of the house I would guess

Well where/how does the coax enter the house? Is it buried or do you have a box outside or is it just fiber to the house, and then coax inside? I've never seen how the openband houses are wired for phone, etc, etc.

Thanks again for the responses. I'll be doing the walkthrough next week, and I'll do some more investigating. If I come up with any info that could help some other folks, I'll report back.

you can run in through the crawl space to the grage. If you don't have a basement you can do that. That's what I did for my house when I added additional ethernet drops.
