Just wanted to warn anyone interested in using "Marvel Maids" cleaning service; we suspect they are running a scam. We received a flyer in our mailbox stating they would clean a house for half-price. They came, they did an okay job. "Joanne", the woman who cleaned our house, told us about a special they were running, buy one cleaning, get one free -- trick was you had to pay in advance. Needless to say, we took a chance and we've never heard from them again. Hope this keeps someone from making the same mistake.

Have you reported this to the police or the Better Business Bureau. At the least, you possibly have a felony to report, and something that the sherff can use against this company.

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is a joke; don't get me started with how useless they are... Report it to law enforcement and maybe you'll get lucky and they'll catch the perpetrators. Thanks for bringing it up here though. It's important for people to understand that these operations will use MANY different names, but their 'mode of operation' rarely changes significantly. I suggest everyone remain skeptical when approached with ANY deal that involves advance payment. That's a quick tip-off as to something being up. Especially when dealing with a company you might have not heard about before...

I agree with Mr. Linux. The BBB provides a nice service as a clearinghouse for complaints, but they have no enforcement powers. I'll look at their lists before making a big purchase, but they're only as good as the information they receive.

I'm always a bit leery of places that want money upfront for services, and I'm appreciative of businesses that expect to be paid upon completion of service. When I had my basement finished a while back, my contractor (whom I expected would ask for part of the fee upfront) wouldn't accept a penny until the first round of county inspections were completed. This told me that he planned on actually performing the work and that he ran his business efficiently enough so that he wasn't cash-poor.

We used "Joanne" also. The whole process seemed too weird and they have never been back. She did an ok, but not great, job. We thought it was weird how you had to pay in cash and someone came by in a blue van to pick up the money.

Obviously, they are not affiliated with the real marvel maids company.
