Does anyone have a paving company recommendation? We have HOA approval to widen our driveway and we'd like to find a reputable company to come and do a nice job.

    thanks.

Sorry to take so long to respond to your query. We recommend Haines Paving in Herndon. Their phone number is 703-471-7600. They have reasonable prices for the industry, but I must admit that any paving is pretty expensive right now with asphalt prices.

Question for Bear or anyone else who might know ...

When should we seal our driveway ? What I mean is should we wait for summer or is it okay to do it during the spring time ? Thank you.

it is ok during the Spring or anytime and what you are looking for are general temperatures to be above 45. Talk to the Sealer company to confirm, but I have had many answers consistent around that point. And ask them about rain too and how soon it is ok for it to be wet or walked/driven on.

I try to only do work when the high temperature is above 50, and the expected low is above 32, and there is not rain in the forecast. If you have south, west, or eastern exposure anytime between 3/15 and 11/15 is good. If you have northern exposure, I would only seal between 4/15 and 9/15.

I wanted to post a follow-up. After a couple quotes, we went with National Paving from Manassas.

They did a great job trimming down our existing driveway, added an additional "lane" to the left of our garage for additional parking and then paved the entire driveway for a consistent look. They put a small asphalt curb at the end of the new lane to prevent someone from pulling to far forward. The surface is smooth, level and mates up perfectly to the concrete sidewalk and garage. The asphalt material used was SM 9.5.

He recommended not to seal it annually and to wait until we were ready to sell the home to make the driveway look nice. Over time the driveway would fade to the grey color of the street. He noticed our previous driveway had many small "cracks" but they were actually cracks in seal that had been applied over the years. Going on 5 months and the driveway still looks black & new.

Customer service has been great and responsive. Based on my experience I will recommend National Paving for consideration.

Personally, I prefer the look of driveways that have faded to a street look vs. that shiny, slippery look of a sealed driveway.

I'm looking for someone to seal my driveway (maybe even time to repave). Any recommendations?

I've always been happy with Collegiate for sealing the driveway.

Thought I would reopen this thread to see if anyone knew of an asphalt paving company that would be willing to take on a small job? about 150sqft? After calling around a few places, most won't work a small job unless you pay the $2000.00 minimum charge. As an alternative, I was also wondering if a concrete can be poured to match/complement an asphalt surface? Thanks!

I called Falls Chruch Paving because I saw their flyer in the coupon pack and it stated no job was too small. I needed to add about 200 square feet of driveway, and the price was higher than I thought it might be. I'm not sure if it was because the price quoted ($2500) was the minimum or because that's how much they wanted to do all the work (digging and hauling the dirt, laying gravel, asphalt, sealing both sides, etc.)

After talking with a few companies and seeing their minimums 2500-3000, I think the effort to haul around hot asphalt and the equipment is just too much for a large job. Who did you find with $2000 minimum?
