Then I suggest you NEVER EVER eat in a restaurant again. I've been in several and you would be amazed/disgusted at what goes on in even high end places.
Oh, and don't eat anything with corn syrup. At the factory the employees hated the long walk to the bathroom and would regularly relieve themselves in the corn syrup vats.
I could go on and on..........

You should not be viewing from a remote access site, you should be there. When the manager calls in half an hour before his shift to quit, and the only people on staff are new hires that haven't been trained, when there are no supplies to be found because they are locked up and the staff that doesn't have a manger is being yelled at by customers, there are problems. The only way to fix these problems is by training new hires, treating them with respect so your turnover rate goes down, and putting procedures in place that allow for backup when nobody is there to unlock the supply room.

If this was my franchise that I put so much money in, I would be in there from open until close until I have staff that I can trust.

Why are you making up your own scenario? That's not the scenario Jimmy outlined. You're making up your own situation and then blaming him for not being there.

    1 - the guy didn't call in
2 - the people on staff were not 'only people on staff are new hires that haven't been trained'

Owners aren't always onsite all the time. That's why they hire managers to actually run the operation.

Not my own scenario. I know one of the people on staff during that time, and that person was brandnew and had not been trained.

so no was there that hasn't been trained? how did they get that far then?

I understand you have another side to the story, but lets keep it level headed, not exaggerated.

    Very true.

When I was riding on the inner-city squads as an EMT, many of our daytime calls were from restaurants and grocery stores.

Trust me on this: Ignorance is bliss.

You simply do not want to know what happens "out back":nono:

    marianne-
Maybe you can enlighten us about all the small businesses you have owned and operated so that your criticism can be taken with some degree of credibility.

I was at the Dunkin Donuts last Saturday morning. There were some real problems going on. I sent a message to Jimmy, asking him to give me a call to discuss what went on.
I received TWO calls, one from Muhamed and one from Jimmy, the next day.
We had a long conversation about what has been going on. They are deeply concerned and committed to getting things right.
I was impressed with their response and appreciated the feedback.

Some may criticize their "remote viewing" but I am actually very impressed.
    Think about it.
They receive an email from someone they have never met asking to talk about what occurred at the restaurant Saturday morning. They then watch the tapes of the entire morning prior to calling back.
Sounds to me that they care a lot about this restaurant and their customers concerns.

Nope, no thank you. Not for me. Regarding your examples, if my "neighbor" is violently ill I do not visit. If someone is violently ill in the pool I do not swim (they close it anyway). If someone is violently ill at work they are respectful and stay home. Anyway, it is one thing not to know and walk through a store where someone with swine flu just visited. It is another to KNOW that the same person is in the store. Now you can't tell me for a second that you visit that same store KNOWING that there is a violently ill person in there. The kind person posted on this forum that they have an employee that was violently ill. I think any person with common sense avoids like the plague. Hey maybe that is where the expression came from :)

PS: I'm not a doctor, nor would I even attempt to diagnose symptoms over a forum. So, please don't tell me about food poisoning. I don't care if it is from bad sushi or locust. Not taking any chances!

    Enjoy your donut and coffee!

And the employee in question stayed home; he/she did NOT come to work because they were sick. That's why people were complaining; there was no manager on duty...

I understand what you are saying, and I understand your point of view. I just think you're making a bigger deal about this particular situation than it really is. Now, if the employee in question was ill at work, you would have a point, but this employee stayed home. All your examples above assume the employee was sick in the store, which has been stated was not the case. You're taking the whole situation to an unreasonable extreme, in my humble opinion...

Here is another one to make you think. Two of my staff worked in a Pepsi Bottling Storage Facility. They did not have a bathroom. To go to the bathroom they would climb the stack of cans and "let it go" all over the cans.

I heard this 15 years ago. To this day, I no longer drink out of cans.

This can't be true. Isn't it against OSHA rules to not have a bathroom in your workplace?

As I said about the corn syrup factory......they had bathrooms, but the employees were didn't want to make the long walk to get to them.

My neighbor used to work for a printing company that also made the vats of glue for closing envelopes. You can guess what they used to do in vat (same lines as the pepsi factory workers). I always try to remember not to lick the envelope!
