Earth Day is Tuesday, April 22nd

As part of this event, the Habitat Committee would like to encourage the residents to get out and clean up Broadlands. We've all been on walks or driving in our car and have seen the litter by the stream, on the path or on the side of the road. We would like to encourage you to plan an activity with your children, Boy or Girl Scout Troop, neighbors or friends to clean up the neighborhood. This could be as simple as grabbing a trash bag on your way out to walk the dog and picking up on the way.

When: April 18-20th (or April 22nd if feasible)
    What: Clean up Broadlands
Why: Because we want our community to be even more beautiful and this is a great learning opportunity for our children

We would love to hear about any activities you already have planned for Earth Day at your school, through your work or any other venues. My daughters Brownie Troop will be picking up litter on April 22nd.

We do have lot's to pick up by our home next to wetlands and easement. The problem has been the high winds on recycle pick up days. I suggest if possible to skip putting the bins out if it is very windy or make sure everything is secured. We are trying our best because going into wetlands to dig out the trash is not fun and it looks very tacky. From the roads there is a lot of visible trash in the area.

Yes, and when trudging through the mucky mud in the wetlands be careful not to step on the new saplings.

I routinely walk along the fringes of the woods and gather mostly plastic bags and the occasional detergent jugs.
