I am interested if anyone works from home - who they work for, or what they do. I am interested working from home or finding a closer location then I have now. I am unsure of what companies allow their employees to work from home or what type of work this is. I do know I want to be home afterschool for my kid and be able to take my kid to school which (lucky for me she is not at that age yet) my current situation does not allot. I am not looking to start my own home business, and I am not too worried about benefits since I can get those through my spouse.

What would be nice is to have an actual headhunter that works for you (back in the good old days they did!), vs. one that gets too many resumes and never calls you back unless YOU meet a specific criteria. I would love it if there was a service to assist in specialized searches like home work or location.

Hi there! I've worked from home in Broadlands on two occasions. First I was working for an international corporation that planned and hosted worldwide conferences. I prepared conference agendas, drafted proposals and did much research from home. I would go to the company's corporate offices once per week.

Then I also worked for an international non-profit organization from home as manager of translations and event planner.

At least these give you some ideas on what kind of work I was able to find.

    Good luck in your search.

Thanks Carol - you seem to be the only one with insight.

The rest of us were waiting with bated breath to see if we could get out of commuting!

Actually I have found most companies very receptive to sound proposals for telecommuting and flex hours. If you can write a proposal with an economic and effective suggestion which also supports and identifies how you will meet company goals and objectives as well as an ability to track measurable results, a company will usually give the proposal full consideration. It would not surprise me if a lot of individuals were in positions which could be applicable to telecommuting or some other type of compromise but have not necessarily approached their company.
