Fosters menu looks neat. Does anyone know, is this the same place that is located in Manassas across from the train station? The menu looked familar. If so, I recall it being pretty good.

I think Foster's has a better burger than Five Guys. I've been to the Fosters in Vienna and the Fosters in Warrenton (At the intersection of 211 and 29, just before you head up to the mountains)

Similiar ordering style, accept with Foster's you fill in a menu card with what you want on your burger.

Fosters first store was out in Manassas. My wife knows the owner. They opened another one out in Warrenton and now this one and the one in Vienna. For a locally owned shop I think it's great they have been able to expand in the area so well. Looks like they are finally starting to expand out of the state as well. Great place.

The sign on the door claims lack of broadband in the site is why they can't take CC.

I know there are merchant systems that work over modem, but maybe what they have doesn't and they're just waiting till they get something.

I also noticed on the sign you can call ahead. But given the time it takes to make them I doubt its really necessary.. I barely waited 3 minutes for a 4 burger order. Biggest deal would be bypassing the line :)

I wasn't too high on the peanut thing.. just made it messy IMO. An atmosphere element I could live without

I believe that they 'could' use a modem, but usually such systems make a call out for EACH transaction. Given that Five Guys probably wants to get people in/out quickly, they made the decision that it would simply make better business sense to not accept credit cards until they can get some form of broadband. Gotta love the fact that they're located within a 1 mile radius of Verizon/AOL, yet they/we can't get broadband other than a cable-modem...

I don't really see what the big fuss is over this place. The burgers are good, but I'd take an In N Out anyday. At about $5 each, they aren't cheap either. The interior is messy and extremely LOUD. I can take it or leave it.

I agree, In-N-Out is better. The I problem is, there is no In-N-Out in this area. So, this is the next best thing.

Credit card companies take a percentage of each credit card sale. A tiny percentage, sure, but each month it adds up to several hundred dollars. If you have a line to the door of people willing to pay cash, why bother with credit cards?

Well one reason would be is to please the customer. Its commonplace now that practicially everywhere you eat takes credit cards. All it takes is one person not seeing the sign and getting embarrased and never coming back again. That in the long run can harm your reputation.

And don't you imagine Five Guys takes a cut of the ATM profits? Another good reason for them not to have cc machines. Instead of paying for the service, they actually make money!

I am not sure if it is stilll this way, but years ago business phone lines were charged for each call. If it is true, they can only get modem access that would mean they would be charged for every credit verification call.

The Five Guys in Chantilly (next to the costco off of route 50) used to have a no CC policy, but they started accepting them 3 months ago.
