If there's nothing wrong with it ... why are you selling ??

Something else ... I just checked the Toshiba site and pulled the product manual .. while this may be wide screen, it doesn't say anything about it being HDTV capable.

Nothing wrong with my TV but I still want to sell it and get a newer one. It's like trading in a car. There's always something better out there.

My dad has a 57H80 and it is indeed HD capable. Why so low on the price? Those are fairly expensive even at a couple years old.

Correction: He has a 57H82, the generation after the one being offered.

I checked the product manual (published in 1998). It is a 65" TV, but not an HDTV. It has inputs for DTV (Digital TV) but its resolution is still NTSC, not the higher HDTV resolution.

Look like it won't be easy to move at over 350 lbs! Does the TV separate from the console?

I was looking in the product manual for the HD settings and capabilities (480i, 1080i, etc) and didn't see anything on that. It may be listed as something else though.

Now I feel like an idiot. I guess I should not trust the TV since it says right on the casing Theaterwide HD. The HD channels (400s) come in crystal clear but apparently it isn't HDTV. Sorry for the mispost as it is obvious I am not an expert on the topic. We are getting a new TV because we bought this one before we moved to VA and we had room for it. With no basement in our new house, my wife is sick of it in the family room. The TV is all one unit but it does roll.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

If the TV is still available I may be interested.

    Thanks!

I also originally thought this wasn't an HDTV because I couldn't find anything mentioning HDTV in the on-line manual. However, the following HDTV-related information is from a Toshiba Projection TV brochure:

    • Red & Green Color Lens Filters
    • First Surface Mirror
    • Wide 160-Degree Horizontal Viewing Angle

    • Wide-Band Video Amplifier
    • Flesh Tone Correction & Color Detail Enhancer
    AUDIO
    • MTS Stereo/SAP with dbx®

    • 2 RF Inputs
    • Front Panel A/V Inputs
    • Front S-Video Inputs
    • Center Channel Audio Input
    • A/V Outputs
    • Variable Audio Outputs

Specifically, the Model 65H80 TV has the following features:
    TheaterWide® Standard Features Plus:
    VIDEO
    • HDTV-Compatible (1080i)
    • 1600 Lines Horizontal Resolution
    • TheaterBrightTM HD Screen with SLD
    • PowerFocusTM HD 6-Element Lens System
    • PowerFocusTM HD (Improved) CRT
    • Multilinear Digital Focus

I don't know desert_rat and I have no interest in this sale. I just wanted to pass along the correct information for someone who might be interested in this set.

As a side, the difference between the Toshiba "H" and "HX" models is the "H" models are HDTV-compatible--they require an HDTV converter box. The "HX" models are a true HDTV monitor--they don't require an HDTV converter because it's included. If you want to watch local HDTV channels using an outside antenna, just plug the signal into the TV.

    GCyr,

Thanks for the info. Now I can call off the hit on the Best Buy salesman.

Great info ... that was my take too .. nothing in the manual that stipulated the HD resolution: 1080i.
