Thursday, 6:30 p.m. A neighbor of ours has found a roaming dog that's desparately looking for her owner. She's a small, sweet-tempered pit bull mix, brown/tan in color. She may have slipped out of her collar as she has no identification. I'm just the messenger and trying to help out, so contact Amy at xxxxxxx (she's got her hands full being a guardian angel right now :) She was found on Millford Drive. Spread the word!

I think I saw a poster on my mailbox looking for a lost dog. I thought it was a Terrier mix but I could be wrong. It was on the mailbox at the Southern Walk Townhomes on Trail Run Terrace. Hopefully it is the right one

Great news! Dogs and their owners were successfully reunited.

Residents who have lost their pets should try the following:

-- Call the local Animal Control Center for Ashburn/Leesburg at 703-777-0406 (to see if they have picked up any wandering pets),
-- Pass out fliers in your neighborhood,
-- Inquire at local veterinary offices,
-- Visit local pet adoption/pet rescue centers, just in case.

Animal Control said that they will hold lost dogs for 10 days and will try everything they can to find the owner. If they have not found the owner after 10 days -- and the dog is good-natured -- they will put the unclaimed dog up for adoption at a local adoption center or pet rescue center.

Oh that is wonderful news! I do believe there is something in the air right now making all these pets getting out! [:X]

In addition to your excellent suggestions, may I also add that if one has a missing cat, Fancy Cats of Herndon also has a dynamic web site and will post a photo with info (www.fancycats.org).

Besides calling animal control to see if they have picked up any pets you can also file a lost pet report which they keep on file for 30 days. And, in the interim, do call animal control weekly to follow up as they are quite busy.

When putting out fliers in a neighborhood and at local vets, be sure to include the grocery store bulletin boards and many of the other local businesses will let you put up a flier as well. The more exposure the better. A footnote...I have found though that you must be prepared to keep going out and putting up more fliers as when the lawn/maintenance crew comes through Southern Walk they will remove fliers from light poles or signs.
