    Hello
We live in SFH in southern walk. We have a gas fireplace in our family room. I am sure that the logs that the builder has placed inside the fireplace are not "real wood" I am not sure what you call those maybe "artificial wood".

From where can I get these kind of logs if I want to replace those??

    Thanks
    Sandeep

You can find cheap ones at home depot and lowes. I believe that the fake logs are part of the actual system for the fireplace though so to replace them would require you to replace the regulator system. I could be wrong on that though. To find good quality ones you probably should look online. I don't know of any retailers around here that have had anything that looked remotely decent.

Most likely the logs are ceramic. I don't think I'd mess with them, unless you plan to replace with original manufacturer products.

If you are trying to get a different look, you're probably better off looking at an entire new log set. Lawn and Leisure in Herndon has one of the best selections in the area. They aren't cheap, but they have "live" working demos of the products they carry. They're also very knowledgeable about gas fireplace logs. I've bought three different sets from them. They also helped me spec out a gas fireplace for my basement.

    Thanks for the responses.

The only reason I even thought about replacing them was they definitely looked "worn out" maybe not a correct term to use. Definitely they are not in the condition at the time we bought the house which is more than one year old and the FP has been used moderately.

Has anyone seen this deterioation with the "logs" as the time has gone hy with the FP being used.

I definitely don't want to mess with it if I have to change the regulatory system. I was under the impression that I could just replace the logs with new ones. With the complexity and the cost involved maybe I having second thoughts.

    Thanks for the responses.

"worn out" doesn't sound right. Not sure how long you've had them, but if they look to be deteriorating, maybe you have a warranty claim. If they look dirty, (black soot build up) you can wash them, and try to restore some of the original look.

My experience has been every log set as different custom cut logs. I would think it hard to find a generic replacement. Maybe the manufacturer's website could help you out with a source for new logs.

    Thanks afgm

I have no idea as to who the manufacturer is maybe VanMetre will be able to provide me the info. We live in SFH by Van Metre (Fitzgerald II model) if anyone knows the manufacturer that would be great help if someone can post it here.

When you say "wash it" does it just involve me getting the logs out and wash them with water and let them dry and put it back or any special precautions are needed?

    Thanks

I just use warm water and a little vinegar. I also use a plastic bristle scrub brush.

The logs should "unstack" from the fireplace. Remember how they go back, there's usually an exact spot for them to fit together.

sandeepb ... are you having problems posting here ?? The reason I ask is that every reply you make seems to be posting 2 or 3 times.
