In reading the various threads, I really feel for our representatives in the HOA! It seems like it is easy to pounce and complain about HOA decisions or perceived lack of decisions for the community. In fact, I believe Broadlands has one of the most active and pro-active HOA's that I've seen. Perhaps these forums and the perceived anonymity of the forums makes it easier for residents to vent to the HOA when things are not going the way they wished.

We are fortunate in Broadlands that our HOA members are readily available and respond quickly to queries. They are also open to suggestions. However it is just common sense before pointing what could be construed as blame or complaints to HOA on an issue or service or lack thereof, we all should do our due diligence on an issue.

The HOA keeps us informed both electronically and hard copy with its monthly newsletter. Special notices and changes are also provided to us in a timely manner.

And last but not least, not as many local communities even have such forums as the one set up for Broadlands residents.

So in closing, I'd like to thank the HOA for the great job they are doing and let them know they are very much appreciated!

    Carol ...

as a former board member, I know the current board appreciates your support. Cliff is always walking or riding the streets of Broadlands, Staci is constantly working to improve the recreation activities at the pools and throughout the HOA an d Donna is involved with Neighborhood Watch and other areas of security.

Then you have the paid staff, who are the ones who have to deal with residents on a day to day basis. Not enough is said about their responsiveness and patience.

FWIW ... HOA dues & Loudoun county taxes are cheap compared to what I have to pay here in the Baldwin Boro area of Pittsburgh/Allegheny County. I'm paying as much in taxes here on a $150K house, as I did there on a $650K house.

    Re: Give Hoa A Break!!!!

I read the entire thread about the lawn care and did not come away with a sense that people were blaming the HOA. On the contrary you will note that people learned about the builder being responsible for certain sections and now understand better. Kudos to the HOA for explaining this and thumbs up to home owners for asking.

I believe our HOA staff are doing a great job, but at the same time an area that is literally directly across the street from the Nature/HOA center (Village drive) has been the topic of much complaints/debate/discussion. To some of the homeowners it looks bad when only 200 yards across the street from the HOA center, the common areas look bad.

Could people pick up the phone and call HOA and ask about this? Yes they can, but they can also post here since this is another outlet and avenue for discussion and questions.

Could people attend a meeting and voice their concern? Yes they sure can, but not everyone has the time with work, kids, school, etc to do this. Hence a forum like this is a great opportunity to still express our views.

This topic seems to have received enough interest that maybe the mods can make it a 'sticky' for new readers and update us regularly via this forum in regards to new information about the common areas.

    Just a suggestion.
    Chris

Hi Chris! Looks like by your postings you may be new to Broadlands and if that is the case, then welcome!

You'll find it's not just about lawn care....so many diverse threads and subjects seem to always come around to HOA should do this or that....and amazingly HOA folks always do respond! It's always easy for any of us, myself included, to tell/suggest what to do to the HOA but rarely do we in turn acknowledge what all they have done and let them know we appreciate all of their responses, actions and time! :)

    CAA-
Thank you! Actually it will be a year in October that I've been here. I was a resident in Ashburn Village for almost 10 years.

I just normally don't participate in these forums unless there is a topic I feel I might be able to add to. And the common area thread I felt that way, since as I had said ... I took the time to specifically show HOA the areas of concern. They were extremely quick in responding, they were courteaous and responsive. And I made sure I expressed my thanks to them and the Van Metre board members in the emails we exchanged.

    Beers for everyone!

    This is all OUTRAGEOUS!!

Can't the HOA do something about all the people complaining about the HOA??

    This is SO frustrating!!

I agree with CAA. My sister lives in Ashburn Farm and residents have little support and not much of a partnership with the HOA according to her.

The Broadlands HOA and this Forum are much appreciated.

You'll have to use real bait to get a response to that

I was wondering how long it would take for you to say something <grin>.

I happen to know the Ashburn Farm HOA is very responsive. However, there are smaller HOAs within the 'Farm' (different developers), or the Village, perhaps that's what she's talking about.

No bait 'cause I'm not fishing.

We were talking about neighborhood stuff and I was telling her about this forum and what seems to me to be a very engaged association/community. Since her experience has not been the same, I was just throwing out a thank you.

    Re: Give Hoa A Break!!!!

Don't you people get it? The HOA's job is to find a solution to all the problems in Broadlands. The real problem is the residents of Broadlands. It amazes me how idiotic and annoying we can be (myself included). Let's back off the HOA and criticize ourselves for once!

    Re: Give Hoa A Break!!!!

Perfectly written and well thought out!;) FYI, some of you may already know this, but those who don't: The HOA Board/Committ members such as Cliff, Staci, Brian, Steve etc...(newly departed Neil), they DONATE their time and effort to represent the best interest of homeowners (that's right zilch, nada, zero - plus they work, have families too). So as the bumpersticker says Back-off!

Ashburn Farm's HOA pays double what Broadland's HOA pays.
