Why do we have helicopters hovering this morning? I noticed it at 6 and they are still out there. New kind of wake up call for the family.

Just looked at email and got my answer...

The eastbound lanes of the Dulles Greenway are closed to a crash in the area of Waxpool Road. Commuters are advised to find an alternate route or expect delays. 630 a.m.

I heard them too. They seemed to go on forever! I hope there were not any fatalities.

They are showing live shots of the accident/back-up on the channel 7 news. Looks bad. Greenway is extremely backed up.

now that I was out there... it was because 3 helicopters (presumably news choppers) were hovering and just staying there... over near the Home Depot/HT area. Ugh.. poor people in quailpond/flynns crossing/Southern Walk.

As loud as it was over here.. it must have been miserable down there.

I slept through it but dreamt that there were fighter jets, helicopters, bombers, and all kinds of stuff in the sky and that we were under an attack! funny to hear that there was actual noise fueling the dream! (but not funny to know that there may have been injuries)

Heard it was a hit and run, which explains the police chopper and searchlight....

Yes it was pretty loud and woke up the little one. Hubby drove by and said it was pretty bad, hopefully the crash victims are ok.

Off-topic the helicopter still didn't drown out the construction noise @ 6:29AM (at the Pulte development) towards the end of Claiborne.:angryfire:

Nothing like waking up to drilling, helicopters I can understand construction not so much.

We live in Southern Walk in the townhouses just off of Village Dr. and my husband was actually awakened by the crash this morning just before 5:30. We had the window cracked open, and he said at first he thought a plane had crashed it was so loud! (I wear earplugs to sleep so I didn't hear any of it) He then said that there were so many sirens he lost count, but it kept him up the rest of the morning. It looked truly horrific.

NBC 4 reports it was a single vehicle accident just before Rte 772 on the Greenway and the 63 YO driver (Daniel Weiner) had a medical condition may have been a factor, but he expected to make a full recovery.

The Hit & Run (80 year old woman) story happened in Springfield on saturday night. This story was reported right after NBC's coverage of this morning's accident.
