the child is turning one? will it be mostly adult relatives in attendance? may as well make it someplace that suits the adults since one year olds are the same in a basement, or restaurant or play area- just give 'em a box and something the bang with and they are H.A.P.P.Y.!

I, too have a baby turning one on Dec. 30 and am having the same problems. I did just see a new gym for kids in the Broadlands Village Center called JW Tumbles. They do birthday parties for one year olds. THere web site is www.JWTumbles.com . Maybe if anyone has used them they can post their experiences on here.

Good Luck with your party search!

    SBM24 and others:

If you want a fun-filled birthday party, have you thought of Burke Lake Park in Fairfax County? The park has a miniature train, carousal, ice cream parlor, and other fun activities. The train runs on the weekends. Check out Fairfax County's Park and Rec web site for details. They have details on site for birthday parties, etc.

We took our quads there three years ago for their 3 yr old party. They are now 6 and still love the park.

    Good luck.

Why not have the party in you're home?

I would love to have mine in our home, but don't have the space. We're in a condo!

SMB24--You might try renting a space at one of Loudoun County's Community Centers. Check with Loudoun County Parks and Rec to see if space is available. Sometimes a restaurant with a meeting room space will allow large parties for birthdays, showers, etc. Just check around at local restaurants with large dining room areas.

You might also use washingtonfamily.com and washingtonparent.com for their online resource guides for parties and other activities. Washington Family and Washington Parent magazines are published monthly for VA, MD, and metro DC areas with articles, calendar of events, etc. for parents and families. Also, washingtonwoman.com is Washington Woman's magazine for women working and non-working, single and married with interesting sites also. Power packed full of information. All three magazines are published monthly and available at Whole Foods, libraries, and other locations. See web sites for information.

You might also try some of the other Ashburn or local neighborhood Community Centers. Sometimes the local neighborhood centers will rent space out if available. Frying Pan Park is also another location in Fairfax to check out for kids' parties. Depends on how involved you wish to be in their first birthday party, I guess.

    Good Luck,

I cannot do in my home due to space constraint. Most of the people I invite have bigger kids and they need place to run around and with their faces painted etc. so for me places like little gym is not an option. I am looking for community centers . I checked sterling annex yesterday.... and really did not like the place . not sure if tehre are other community centres in the county.

Parks.. I dont think is a good option in dec .In summer it would be great

Ida Lee in leesburg has an indoor meeting room and party room. I remember looking into it for a late Nov birthday and it seemed reasonable price, but that was a few years ago so I am not sure.

A couple of years ago we rented the hall at the Ashburn Volunteer Fire Department for my son's 2-year birthday. 1-year olds might not appreciate it but it would be great for older kids.

It was pretty cheap, too. I think it was $50 for 2 hours. You need to bring all food/drinks (no alcohol allowed). The fee included use of the hall, a tour of the fire house, a firefighting equipment demo, and the kids got to climb in, on and around several fire trucks and the fire department's ambulance. Pretty good deal if you ask me.

I don't know if they still do this, but if anyone is interested I would just call the AVFD on their non-emergency number.

The community center in Arcola might also rent out for parties. My daughter went to one there a couple of years ago.

Also, check with other subdivisions near you that have THEIR own community centers (i.e. Cascades communities, Ashburn Farms communities, etc.).

As an afterthought, also check out Potomac Stations' community center in their neighborhood and Lansdowne Resort for an option in their restaurants. Cascades and Countryside communities have nice community centers as well.

Silver Diner restaurant in Reston might also be another option for you to check into for parties.
If I think of any more, I will post information.

Check out the Dulles SportsPlex in Sterling (very close to the BestBuy/Lowe's/Wal-Mart shopping center). They do host b-day parties and they have b-ball courts, soccer fields (all in-door), small arcade area and I believe a room for you for pizza/cake/gifts, etc. So for bigger kids, plenty of room and physical activities to enjoy.

Also, Belmont Greene has a community center - they're just past Stone Bridge High School, don't forget to check with them.
