I've called most of the numbers in the Broadlands helper list with no luck. Am looking for someone to help today with shoveling my driveway in Overland Park area of Broadlands.

If anyone's has any kids that would be willing to help it would be appreciated and they will be compensated for their time.

    Please email me if available.

I find it very sad that no one has replied to help you in snow shoveling.....I was out shoveling our driveway the other day and a bunch of teenagers walked by and never offered to help....granted I didn't need it, but it would have been nice to offer. Used to be teenagers would go around the neighborhood with a snow shovel to ask if anyone needed help. Too bad.

    tyger,

Keep in mind that NOVA gets a lot of transplants from all over the country--not everyone was raised in an area where you get a lot of snow and therefore don't know about such things.

I grew up in Massachusetts and frequently helped my neighbors shovel their driveways--sometimes I got a few bucks for it, sometimes I didn't. Not everyone knows about this "tradition", though...

I believe that you are getting no responses because this stuff is impossible to shovel.

Which might also be why some of us haven't done our sidewalks. Someone said we should have shovelled it Wed before it froze - well guess what - some of us had to go in to work and didn't get back home until after dark. By that time it was frozen solid. So, for those of you, who like us, are still pounding through it, I feel your pain (in your back, your shoulders, you head, etc).

Or the rump and my right wrist since I've fallen twice on this crud trying to get it off my driveway.

I would suggest adding category to helpers in newsletter of people that are willing to help for snow removal. I called several of the kids listed under lawn care but they were either not available or not interested.

In meantime I've slowly been poking away at it and hope to have it done this weekend. Got the most important part done :) stairs off deck in backyard cleared so dog doesn't slide anymore.

My 13-year-old son is not listed, but is willing to work hard and shovel. In fact, he'll do just about any kind of work for money :)

He walks dogs, shovels, cuts grass, washes cars, refs hockey games, etc. He is home schooled so he's always around! Just email or PM me for contact info.

We live at the corner of Ridgeway and Mapleton - looking at the "hill" behind the Nature Center.

Next time it snows let me know. My 17 year old son uses our 26" wide snowblower to do our driveway, and the sidewalk, plus the neighbors on either side. They pay him $20 per driveway, and this time around extra help was necessary with shovel work so he called a buddy to help him. He may not get to you right away - depending on what type of snow we have but he will come if called!

so next time, Call us at 571-333-0461 and we'll help you out
