I did a search and found a few folks who say good things about this place, and one person said their family membership ran about $200 a month in an old thread.

I'm asking to see if anyone had any updated info newer than that? I currently work out at Golds but am considering making the switch to a membership at S&H for hubby and me, and of course we'd need childcare too.

Any comments about the club? Is it still as good as it used to be? Any idea about prices? Thanks! I'll head over there in the next few days to check it out and actually get real prices from them but wanted to get an idea here first.

Also, any suggestions for how we can get a special rate, extra good deal, etc?

I worked there for about 8 years at the pool up until last September. I sold memberships briefly, but that was back in 1999. The club, IMO, is one of the best, if not best in the area. It is more expensive than Golds or the Y, but it is worth. Of course this all depends on what you're looking for. The Kids Klub is great with 3 different rooms for 3 different age groups. I don't know how old you kids are, but I believe they still have activities called "Parents Night Out" where you can drop your kid off around 7 or so and pick them back up by midnight. they would povide some organized activities while you were "outt on the town". It's basically a babysitting service, but they used to do them over night as well. Lots of fun for the kids.

Their prices have changed over the years, but they almost always have some sort of promotion going on.

FYI I am not sure if you can wait to switch but Lifetime Fitness is opening in Loudoun by AOL this fall. You can get more information on their website.

Pricewise I think it is similiar to Worldgate but it is open 24 hours and I believe will have an indoor and outdoor pool.

i taught fitness classes at Worldgate S & H for 4 years before my ankle went on me, and i can honestly say i've always been impressed by the member services. great team there, excellent management, they really put members first. i don't know about price since i taught, but i enjoyed the amenities- the sauna, steam room, whirlpool, serenity day spa right next door- it's a great gym. The Boy- who is 9- liked the child care b/c they separate babies and big kids, he got to play basketball there and sometimes they played organized games on the racquetball court. they DO have parent's night out- convenient if you want to see a grown up movie and have right there in the plaza.

i also taught at lifetime in centreville- ANOTHER great gym. i would compare amenities and see which has what you want: if you don't care if there is a rock climbing wall or indoor/outdoor pools (our HOA covers outdoor pools!) focus on the child care and amenities, since they will make the biggest difference. i can't see the prices being drastically difference- especially since they will negotiate!

I've checked already and Lifetime is going to be MUCH more expensive then Worldgate. It will obviously be much closer then Worldgate though.

Re: Herndon Worldgate Sport & Health?

    sharse and others--

We still belong to Worldgate's Sport and Health. Our sons did karate and our daughters did swimming classes last year. Great environment for kids and activities for the whole family.

Parents Night Out is also a great feature for older kids. I do not know about current rates; but get a Guest Pass and try it out. I believe that you can get a FREE Guest Pass for yourself and family members. Check web site for info. I referred a friend and she received a 3 day Guest Pass.

    Web site is--

    www.sportandhealth.com (Sport and Health's site/info.)

We love this place--plus you can go work out early if you work near there.

The prices I've seen so far for two adults and my two munchkins (under age 10) are virtually the same. Lifetime may be one or two dollars more a month.

I posted the Lifetime thing because the price is very comparible to what I have always been quoted by Worldgate and is much closer and more easily accessed without taking the Greedway.

If you're looking for the prices of Worldgate, give them a call. When I did the membership option on Lifetime (2 adults and 3 kids), it came out to $170. It looks like Lifetime is charging for the two adults and then PER child. S&H has the same rate whether you have 1, 2 or 5 children.
Lifetime is ALL about packing the members in, no matter how crowded it gets. They HAD to start offering valet parking at the club in Centreville because they stuffed it so bad. There are more stories that I don't need to get in to. Bottom line is it will be a very nice family health club...but it will be PACKED and you'll be waiting on equipment.

Serenity Spa at Worldgate is excellent. You can even drop the kids off beforehand. Totally recommend it.
