Does anyone have one? We have a top loading H.E. washer and I recently read that you have to use only laundry detergents that are formulated for H.E. washing machines. Is this true? We have been using regular laundry detergents for the past 4 years, and this is all new to me! :(

Yes ... you should be using HE detergents as any HE washers uses less water, and the HE detergents are formulated for such use. Use of regular detergents can leave residues on your fabrics that can cause irritation to the skin.

There are liquids and powders available.

Blatent commercial plug: I'm biased but I use this formulation: http://www.watkinsonline.com/PDF/KeepingHouse/LaundryDetergent.pdf
which is also dye and fragrence free. My wife is very sensitive to detergents and this does not cause her any problems.

You can order it at www.neil1951.com .

I have a front loader and use HE detergent, but I think you can use regular detergernt if you use it in a smaller quantity. It might leave more residue, but it's not going to kill anyone...

We have a GE Profile Harmony, top load HE washer/dryer. GE actually stated we could use regular detergents if we place the liquid tray into detergent bin...which reduces the amount of detergent. We've used regular detergent for 18 months and not had any issues. I can't find anything in the manual that states we should use HE Detergent. Hope that helps.

    Thanks Neil!
I have an HE washer and have been using Dreft for the whole family- but I just ordered your detergent (and pre-wash stain remover). We are sensitive skin people over here!

We have 2 sets of HE GE Front loading Washer/Dryer units. Having quads--we do alot of laundry! Seriously, you should use about 1/3 less detergent that you normally would with a regular washing/drying system. If you overdo the laundry detergents, etc., the laundry will have chemical residues on the load and will not be completely clean. Front loaders are known to be energy efficient and time saving. Here is a web site and link for further investigation--

www.consumersearch.com (Consumer Search reviews all products.)

This site is also invaluable for other queries for homeowners.

    Good luck--

Even using as much HE detergent as the package suggests can be too much, I've found. I use ONLY HE detergent, and depending on the load use 40% - 70% of the recommended amount.
