    Hi Y'all!

After moving here in June from North Carolina, I'm eagerly anticipating school starting next month...but the nerves are kicking in as well

I don't know a thing about Hillside Elementary--so would you veterans help out a newbie??

We got our letters in the mail today with the teacher assignments. My first grader has Mrs. Campbell, and my third grader has Mrs. McGrath. Anybody have experience with these teachers?? Of couse, I realize they might be on this board, so I'm not asking for any "dirt," just any info anyone has. Are they nice? Kind? Allow parents to help out? I'm especially concerned about my first grader since she's a "special needs" students.

You'd think my kids were applying for college-as concerned as I am! :pofl:

Thanks for any help and assurance. I'm sure we'll have a wonderful time at Hillside!

welcome!!! i am sure you and your kids will enjoy your hillside experience- we did! the whole staff is very supportive of the kids and parents seem to be really involved. i was very pleased with the cirrculum and teaching styles of each educator my son had, i don't know anything aobut your kid's teachers, but my son just told me that Mrs. McGrath is cool!

go to the Broadlands Carnival today- Nature's Center after 4pm. you'll meet teachers, classmates, parents- THAT's a MUCH better way to know more about the people you will deal with than the message board! (although the board is great too. ;) )

Your first grader will love Mrs. Campbell. She's very experienced, kind, caring and has a lot of experience with those kids who need a little extra attention (or more than a little).

Please feel free to pm me with any special education issues/concerns/questions as I am the Special Education Advisory Committee representative for Hillside.

    Thanks for your replies!

"She's cool" sounds good for my 3rd grader :)

And I'm glad to hear that about Mrs. Campbell. Mrs. Green was very kind this summer when I talked to her about my first grader. My daughter will definitely need that extra attention! And I'll absolutely let you know if I have any questions or concerns. Thank you!!

I wholeheartedly second the comment about Mrs Campbell! She's a super teacher and her style was especially wonderful for my special needs son. I hated to see 1st grade end last year. I know you'll be thrilled!

Yay! Thanks for your comments. My first grader LOVED meeting Mrs. Campbell at the open house on Friday, and she's very excited about starting school tomorrow. I think we have a promising year ahead.

And Mrs. McGrath was SO busy with former students coming in to hug her, so she MUST be just as great!

We're looking forward to a super Hillside experience :)
