A old house on Waxpool burned to the ground Saturday (6/28/03) night. I first noticed a large column of smoke and sparks rising over the trees near the little league field on old Waxpool Road @ around 11pm. The fire gave off enough light to cast a shadow on Broadlands houses near Inglewood Ct. Soon afterwards I heard then saw fire trucks enroute to the fire. It took at least a half-hour for the Fire Dept. to knock down the flames. I rode my bike past the site on Sunday afternoon and the Fire Dept was still hosing down the smoldering ashes. Nothing was left of the house except the brick facade and chimney. Where is the closest Fire House and are more planned for our area?

The nearest fire station is on Ashburn Road near Hay Road. There are plans to build a Fire and Rescue station here in Broadlands.
The current planned location is off Broadlands Blvd east of the Greenway. The developer, after receiving input from the fire and rescue folks, is looking to relocate it off Village Drive, east of the new Southern Walk pool. This is a more central location.

Any update on where the proposed fire station site is going to be?

I thought I read something in the paper very recently (perhaps the weekly Loudoun insert to the Post?) that the new fire station site is off Rte 772 on "our side" of the Greenway. It seems that would be right along the southern entrance to Broadlands, once the roads are completed to connect Claiborne Parkway with Rte. 772.

  ok old topic but its getting anyoing to us firefighters when people complain about response times. ashburn volunteer fire and rescue has two firestations in ashburn and a third on the way, one at 20688 ashburn rd, the other is across from verizon off of waxpool on redrum dr. the third station is planned for the lansdowne area. station 23 the one by verizon is a temorary station and the real one will be built at old ryan rd and ashburn village blvd next to the greenway. our response times are on average 6-8 min to any point in broadlands due to the higher call volume 4,000 911 calls a year in ashburn alone is what makes our response times slower because we are either on another call or on the way back from antoher call. ashbun answers the most 911 calls in loudoun county each year that is why all of loudoun counties fire stations have 7\12 carear staffing from 6AM-6PM.

Daburn - unless things have changed from when Brassy@39 & I volunteered.... anyone can wander down to the station and pick up an app, right? So if folks think that response times are too long, they should probably check it out?

Dunno - just a crazy idea.

    daburn,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe kholbert, or anyone else, complained in this thread about response times. What kholbert said is that "soon after" s/he noticed the smoke/sparks the fire trucks were seen and heard, and that it took the fire department about 30 minutes to knock the flames down once they got on the scene.

I did not read this as a slight against the fire department. Instead, I read this as an indication of how large/strong the fire was.
