We had Van Metre install an outdoor gas line for a grill when we built last year. We are now looking at getting a deck built, and trying to figure out how/when we should get the connection run to where the grill will be.

Does anyone have any experience with doing this? Do we run the line before building the deck or do we need to have the grill in place? Do we need to hire someone? I'm a little oogie about dealing with gas.

    thanks.

We also had our builder provide a NG STUBB-OUT at the back of the house when it was being built. I don't understand why more folks don't do this. One of our best options, I can tell you. I am on our 2nd NG grill since 1998. You will love not having to run out for propane and grilling whenever you feel like it. I always keep our deck clear of snow and grill year 'round, often preparing the entire meal outside.

We used "My Plumber" to terminate and run the gas line as the deck was being built. He then had to come back to connect to the grill once the deck was done. Cost about $250 or so and worth every penny. Make sure to use a NG certifed plumber and you'll be fine. We've had very safe and reliable service.

We got a TEC Infrared grill last spring to replace our old DUCANE which never got hot enough for my tastes. The TEC sears a ribeye or T-Bone like a work of art, as good as anything you can get at Ruth's or Morton's. We are in carnivore heaven....

You will need to have a 'gas certified' plumber install the line to the deck location. The deck will have to be built to the point where the piping can be run, then when the deck is finished, the plumber will need to come back to do the final install.

It will cost you, but it is money well spent for the safety and security aspects alone.
