Hopefully, they are adding a dedicated lane for traffic coming off the Toll Road onto 28.

Don't quote me on this, but I think they are building a dedicated lane from 28 to 606. That way, traffic merges on, and can either take the ramp to Innovation or have time between Innovation and 606 to merge left. The 4th lane (far right) will become and exit only for 606.

Again, I don't quite remember all the details, but it's something similar to that. Also good news is that 28 is planned to be 5 lanes in each direction here, to help with the traffic merging issues.

T8ergirl is HATING the morning merge onto 28 from the Greenway!

13 minutes yesterday and 12 today AFTER she went through the tool booth. This is going to be a serious nightmare after school starts back up.

5 lanes would be wonderful if it got built, but it won't be in our grandkids lifetime. We won't see 4 lanes in each direction in our kids lifetime. The only way Mr Snow wants to add roads if we add 20 times more homes so then we are just in even worse shape. Ok I will shut up about the Snow thing for awhile.;) This is not wonderful because by the time the road gets built it is way over capacity anyway.

Didn't I read somewhere that they were going to be building another entrance to the airport from the Greenway? Maybe that will help a little bit. I don't know what you can do about the Greenway merge onto 28 though. It stinks that it's at the same place as the airport exit off of 28. I don't see any major improvements to that mess for quite some time.

Well, let me tell those nice Greenway folks that thanks to the Innovation change I AM DONE with their stinking road. Now it is no longer worth the money. I can go Rt. 50 to get to Chantilly and it will take me the same amount of time FOR FREE now that I have to add 13 minutes to my commute to sit on an entrance ramp to 28. I am bitter. Can you tell?

Let me figure this out - you're going from the Greenway to 28 South ? In that case, the real issue isn't that the Innovation light is gone (although that has reduced the spacing in traffic), the real issue is that the Frying Pan light is still in place. Once that goes, traffic should sail smoothly.

It's easy for me to say, since I don't commute that way, but if we give the 28 project time, it will be really nice once complete (and we're only 2-3 years away - just enough time for VM to get the street lights working).

The problem is you have a busy feeder ONTO Rt 28 (greedway to Rt28 south) in the same location where people are trying to exit from Rt28 to Airport and just 1/4 mile later to 267 East.. also very busy.

It's the mixing bowl all over. The problem is not frying pan, its that you have a very steady supply of people trying to exit and merge in essentially the same location.

Not really. Immediately after the exit onto the toll Rd. 28 actually clears up briefly before getting to Frying Pan. Sure, it will help the overall commute but it still will not do anything for the 3-way merge area.

Plain and simple, you have a high-volume merge (onto 28) and a high-volume exit (airport AND toll Rd.) too close to each other. And without the Innovation light, it is worse in that traffic is constant ALL the time during rush hour.

And we all know how courteous most drivers are letting other cars merge in. ;)

.. and exaggerated right now due to the construction on the Rt 28 to 267 east (toll) ramp.. which backs up the right lane all the way back BEFORE the greenway merge.

Well I did grow up in Texas and a good part of that in Houston. Does that count??? A pal of mine lives on the same street as the enron guy that committed suicide, does that get me a little closer?????
