I saw an ad in the Connection newspaper this week for JabberU which offers foreign language immersion classes for ages 1-10 ( I believe are the age groups). Has anyone tried these classes in Ashburn or Great Falls areas with their children?

    Web site/info is--

    www.jabberu.com (JabberU's info/site.)

Please post opinions and thanks again.

Looks very interesting. I wish they offered German because I speak that as a foreign language and wish I could teach it to my children. I'm going to look into this a bit further.

    Re: JabberU Foreign Language Classes--FANTASTIC!!

I'm so glad I came across this post....

A few weeks ago my co-worker told me she had enrolled her five year-old in Italian classes at Jabberu. I found this thrilling, seeing that in my fantasy life I would love to speak two or three other languages. However, calculate in three children under 6 and a career, of course there is no time. Also, aside from my personal interest, I find this topic far more pertinent for my own children. Foreign language skills have become increasingly important in this rapidly globalizing world, and I fear that in another 15 years ones inability to speak a second language will rule-out entire career options (i.e. international business, advertising, marketing).

My co-worker's enthusiasm, combined with an interest in the issue encouraged me to enroll two of my own children. I have had any equally positive experience. The atmosphere at Jabberu is stimulating, fun and generally positive. It doesn't have a standard "classroom feel" which I think would turn-off any kid. They teach them by playing games, and have a new theme every week which helps maintain their interest (believe me, that is no easy task) Both of my kids are not only picking up the language at an astonishing rate (both are enrolled in Spanish), but they are genuinely enjoying their experience.

To be honest, I don't want my kids to have a painful, frustrated association with learning a second language. If they didn't enjoy the Jabberu style I would have looked for other options. However, that has simply not been the case. My experience has been wonderful.

I think Jabberu is a fantastic resource, and I would truly encourage all parents to get their kids involved.

    GREAT NEWS!

On Saturday, March 15th from 11AM to 2PM Jabberü will be holding an event in Ashburn. Children can participate in a free cultural event entitled Songs and Stories from Around the World. Native instructors will teach the children about several cultures – Spanish, French and Chinese – through stories, song, and play.

So now you don't have to take my word for it and you can see what you think.

(A friend of mine that's attending said you have to call and register in advance (301) 951-1101)

I'm advocating so strongly because I truly think it's worth it.

    20608 Gordon Park Square, #190
(Off Ashburn Road b/w Gloucester Pkwy and Hay Rd.)

By the way, I just found out the Event is actually happening between the hours of 12:30am - 2:30pm (instead of the 11am- 2pm).
