Boys from 1st grade through 5th grade in Broadlands and surrounding areas can join Cub Scouts, dedicated to developing family values in young men in a year round program through good citizenship, physical and mental well being, team building, academics, and fun in the outdoors. Cub Scouting groups serve the boys and families of Hillside, Mill Run, and Legacy Elementary Schools. Information booths will be available at each school’s Back to School Nights, and there will be dedicated Join Scouting Nights later in September. Look for details to come home from school in your son’s backpack. For more information on Cub Scouting at Hillside, call 703-858-5207, for Cub Scouting at Mill Run or Legacy, call 703-726-2755. (Or just send a message to "peddler"). If you have older boys (6th through 12th grades) looking for a Boy Scout Troop, send a message or call 703-724-1064. There are a number of good Boy Scout troops that you can join in the area. If you go to another elementary school in the area, we can provide you information on Cub Scouts serving that school as well.

FYI, On October 5th, 7 to 9pm, there will be Join Scouting Night for boy scouts, ages 11 to 18, or those who have completed their Arrow of Light with the cub scouts. I know that there will be boy scout troops at Eagle Ridge Middle School and Farmwell Station Middle School that night. The goal was to have boy scouts available at all Loudoun County middle schools. Feel free to stop by, if you have any questions about scouting, are just curious, or if you would like to join a troop.

Also, Ashburn's boy scout troop 1158 is having a Show-and-Do Campout on October 28 and 29. The boy scouts will help WEBELOS with activity badges they are working on. Any WEBELOS and their parents are welcome to attend...whether it's for just a few hours or the whole weekend. Call Terry Shaughnessy at 703-729-2427 if you are interested!

    Signed, wife of Vacliff
