    Hey Techies,

My kid spilled water on my laptop and fried the processor. Getting the data recovered but am wondering what is the fave for laptops these days?? I had an HP dv4130us, strictly work, no gaming. I run big programs, and most data is stored on a remote server. Anything now is faster than what I had. My priorities are a 17" screen, and 3 USB ports...that's it!! Now it seems that all of the laptops have cameras, and huge processors and memory that make it more expensive than I need.

Any ideas would be helpful. Would prefer to spend less than $800, no chrome or shiny stuff, thanks!

Take a look at Toshiba. Ours is over 5 years old and has never needed repair, and it's used a LOT. I credit its longevity to the constant use of a cooling pad, so check out those while you're at it unless you already have one.

If you DO go Toshiba - please buy it from www.richardscomputer.com]Richard's Computer [/url]in Fairfax. They have great prices, usually automatically include a three year extended warrenty and they are a Toshiba Certified Repair Depot - so if you do need to have it repaired - it never leaves their shop!

You could also get one from Best Buy, they have some great sales (and their service plans are quite nice).
