I moved into my home late last summer. The lawn is noticably more yellow than just about every other lawn on my street. I'd like to get it in shape and should probably leave it up to professionals.

Does anybody have recommendations for a good lawn care company? I'd prefer someone that uses non-chemical products as I have a little one who'll be spending lots of time in the grass this spring/summer.

    Thanks!

We've been with ProLawn for the past five years. We had a problem a couple of summers ago when they applied fertilizer and then immediately after, we had a surprise heat wave so it burned off part of the lawn, but they came out and supplied us with extra services and reseeded (all at no charge) to make it better. That took time as that's all that can fix that.

Overall though, we've been happy and I'm still with them because sometimes "things" happen. It's how you handle "things" afterward that proves what type of business that you run.

I asked my superintendent about organic lawn treatments and he said the following:
    1) There currently is not any organic lawn ammendments (ferts, pesticides, or fungicides) in liquid form. They are all chemically based products.
    2) Most organic fertilizers are made from Chicken and/or human waste. Most are cooked to kill any harmful parasites.
    3) Having your lawn ph at the right level will allow you to use fewer chemicals because your grass will be able to take up the ferts and naturally be more resistant to disease.

Before you pay 2 or 3 times as much for organic lawn treatments, have a serious, informed conversation with them. You'll see them squirm a little if you appear knowledgable.

We used to have a company "Dream Lawns" for our yard. I would not recommend them. They were very expensive, and when they were just mowing our grass, that would come once a week even when it was growing slow. When it was growing fast, they were frequently unreliable.
