I am looking for a lawyer to help me file an injunction against several business for breaking exisitng VA laws. The county has refused to take action at several levels.

I would require a few hours of time to learn the steps required and am more than willing to do the leg work.

Ideally, if I could just get my hands on an example and some good advice, I can take it from there.

Of course I would request such work as pro bono.

    Appreciate the help.

    Jim

Did you go to better business bureau?
Did you pursue the complaint process at the state level?

You do realize that if you establish that you have neighbors who are lawyers your property values will plummet even further.

I have gone to the Sheriff, Comminwealths Attorney, Board of Supervisors, VA State Police and several agencies/departments in Richmond and gotten nothing but the run around.

I have spoken to several other regardign my issue and they have had similar experiences.

Only option is to take the law in to my own hands and try to stop these companies one at a time. If I can get in front of a judge enough times for the same issue, hopefully they will actually perform their civic duty and enforce the exisitng laws - even if it is just to shut me up.

    Primarily section 8.

Sheriff refuses to cite or even talk to the repeat offenders like Huntington Learning Center.

The signs cause a road hazard for drivers being distracted as well as simply blocking vision.

I think it is sad that a company that claims to help children is actually endangering them on a daily basis.

Are you referring to bandit signs in State right of way or signs on their property?

The advertising signs companies place illegally in the VDOT right of way.

Additionally, most of the signs otside the right of way are on private property. The owners have additional way to stop that action.

Hrm. Then you should also sue Mill Run ES for having bushes not trimmed far enough back to actually be able to see oncoming traffic from the left such as cars/trucks as you have to stick the front end of your car out so far onto Ridgeway just to see.

    Brassy,

The signs posted by companies to advertise are a violation of VA Code 33.1-369. if the hedges are blocking the view of traffic, it is an issue with the property owners, not necessarily a legal issue. If you have an issue with maintenance at the school, I would speak to the school and voice your concern. Next step would be the school board.

I never said I was going to sue anyone. I simply stated that I was going to have a judge file an injunction which would required the offer(s) to stop breaking existing laws.

As an FYI, the County does here such complaints and has teamed with VDOT to remove the signs. They will staff a full time person for this effort to curb the problem in the county. Most likely, the revenue from the fines imposed will fund this position.

Thanks JMK. That, I know has not only bothered me. It will be nice if the county can actually pay someone to take the signs down, they are not only distracting, but junky to look at...quite honestly I ignore what they say.
