    Ahem Marianne, I know of a way. :)

    Anyway, I boycott the Greenway as much as I can. For my everyday commute I leave a little bit earlier and take the "back way". Coming home it is actually better not taking the greenway.

    The owners seem to feel that they can raise the rates for the same reasons a dog licks himself.... because they can. :)

    Personally.. I say let them charge whatever they want.

    My beef is that the state uses the private road as justification on why we don't need others... that's the problem with the privatization concept.

    You don't work in DC. There are days I have a two hour commute with the toll road. I don't want to add to it. I have some ideas I am going to try, especially now with some of the new roads open though.

    I think if more people boycotted using the GREEDWAY - maybe they'd pay attention...or NOT and just raise their rates again. It's highway robbery, especially in this economy.

    Marianne, do yourself a favor and take the bus (available off of 606). It is more reliable in terms of time spent on the road than driving in your car and it is WAY cheaper than taking the Greenway+Toll Road+Parking+Gas.

    I was fortunate to be able to move my business to Ashburn the last time the Greenway raised its rates. The commute expense was a significant factor in the decision.

    Doubt it; when more people start taking alternative roads to get to work starting Jan 1, the Greedway folks will use the "we're making less money, we need to raise rates" excuse; same crap they've been pulling for years...

    There's really no solution to this; they have a 'monopoly'. It's not like a competitor will come in and build an 'alternate' route. And I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for VDOT to help us...

    I partly blame the politicians who time after time approve these ridiculous price increases. I'm sure THEY never ride the Greenway or they would realize just how absurd these rates are.

    i get it- we should ALL change our jobs so we don't HAVE to drive when we're supposed to be heading to and from work- what's not totally realistic and completely sensible about that? :rolleyes3:

    I, for one, like to just block up traffic by driving back and forth on the Greedway during rush hour even when i don't have anyplace to go... clearly she is speaking to people like me who CHOOSE to be on the road during rush hour.

    I agree, if one was to adjust there commute to an earlier of later time, then the "other" roads are not that bad. For us Ashburnians, why pay $$ to the Greedway to only take off a few minutes of your commute?

    for REAL. do your own test- see how much time the Greedway actually "saves" you- you'd be surprised how low the number of minutes is...

    Its actually upwards of 10-20 minutes depending on your time of day. The caveat is when it backs up.. you gain little. The counterpoint is.. Waxpool is ALWAYS backed up :)

    The only real solution is to leave earlier. But if you are someone living west of Leesburg.. you are already getting up uber early. Your only other option is 7.. which is getting great help with the overpasses, but still is a major choke point.

    I don't drive the greenway since I leave early now.. but if you leave in the 'pack'... Greenway will save you substantial time typically. Plus, the traffic on the greenway seems to dissipate earlier then on waxpool.

    Don't kid yourselves. If you all changed your travel time to leave one or sooner or one hour later, the Greedway would simply change these hours to now be part of the "commuter hours." And so on and so on........

    Ridiculous! We continue to boycott this road. Such a shame that it bisects all of Ashburn and we never use it.

    I may be supporting a client who is just off the toll road, this will make my boycott of the greedway much harder.
