I just read an article in the Washington Post Loudoun supplement about the Mighty Midget BBQ - turns out the operator/chef Brian DeVaux, is being turned out by his landlord (who apparently owns the tiny converted WWII bomber as well) in favor of a German restaurant (Hamburg Doner - they will specialize in kebabs?). DeVaux would like to stay in Loudoun according to the article.

If anyone has had BBQ from Mighty Midget, you'll know he turns out great food - I will definitely miss Mighty Midget BBQ. While we now abound in restaurants, this is the type of food I would love to have in Ashburn/Broadlands. If there are any entrepreneurs out there, someone should figure out a way to get DeVaux over our way - I think a good BBQ joint would do well here.

Mighty Midget has been mentioned on Jane and Michael Stern's road food website - this is a shame (while I like German food, I can cook a good Brat at home - but slow cooked BBQ is something I can't replicate too easily at home).

I don't think this is the type of german restaurant you have in mind - these are folks who have a Doner Kebab van, and want a small spot to sell Brats, Falafel, and Kebabs (the article called it a german restaurant, but it appears to be brats and middle eastern food). Mighty Midget is located right across from Tuscarora Mill, on Harrison St. in Leesburg.

now i know! we meant to try it since we smelled it coming out of Tuscarora last month- man it smelled good! maybe they can buy Del Ray's spot once they go OOB, or any one of the many Thai restaurants that CAN'T survive since there are so many around here...

is there a plaza arund here that would even allow for a set up like that to exist? those little kiosk type joints often have the best food. :)

I read about might midget in a US Air magazine oddly enough and the BBQ was amazing. I am sad to see it go - but the article was kind of funny. The owner was complaining that he is being thrown out - yet he did not get along with the landlord and did not have a solid lease. Now he wants the govt to step in an help. So he lost a little respect in my eyes.

As you say - there are plenty of strip mall places available and will be even more in the upcoming months I imagine.
