I'm looking for someone with experience developing multimedia presentations with music, video, text and graphics. Much of the source material is currently on miniDV cassette. We need someone who has the skills to put together an exciting 2-3 minute "commercial" for our organization. Quick turnaround needed. If interested, please contact me through this forum or at 703-729-7701. Thanks!

If you can get the source off the cassett and on to say, a DVD or CD, I can do it tonight.

That's part of my problem! I'm searching the internet right now for info on how to convert. Maybe I can do it with my Camcorder, if the tapes are compatible with it. Maybe there's a service out there that'll do it for me - that's what I'm browsing for now. There are two 60-min tapes that I'll have to look through and find the best excerpts to use; I haven't seen them yet.

Did the cam-corder come with a USB cord to plug into the PC and transfer that way?

Not sure, will have to go look for the camera bag when I get home. If it does, can I just "play" it right onto a CD?

Nah - you will copy it to ard disk first, THEN onto CD.

Would you use Powerpoint? What format does the movie file need to be in? Do you have software to pull excerpts out?

    I have a mini-dv camcorder with a firewire connection.
I also have Pinnacle Studio and Roxio. Either can be used to capture the separate scenes. Once on the computer, the files can be cut to a DVD for you to use.

Can anyone recommend software for simple dvd editing?

I have camcorder footage saved to dvd, but it could use some [heavy] editing. Would also like to be able to make fairly simple dvd slideshows, add captions, set to music, etc with digital pictures.

    Thanks for any advice!

I personally use DVDit pro. a little expensive, but very versitle. On my MAC, I use DVDstudio, that's a little more powerful and has a steep learining curve. DVDit also has a "little brother" called MyDVD. It's good for simple DVD creation, image slide shows, etc. For actual video editing, I use an AVID, but you can get away with Microsoft Movie Maker or any of the Ilife products for MAC. I personally have not had great success with iMovie as a reliable video editing platform. If you have alot of footage to edit, and want to invest a little money, Adobe PremierPro works well and is a good value.
