So it sounds like what I should do is replace my broken HD DVD player with another HD DVD player. Bag the Blu-Ray for now. Limit my HD DVD purchases, and encourage the fam to rent. Hope I got that right.

Good discussion, thank you to everyone who participated. Care on!

I don't think they are even making HD-DVD players or DVDs anymore. The only HD format available from Netflix is Blu-Ray, and I know Best Buy doesn't have HD-DVDs or players.

I would HIGHLY suggest getting a Playstation 3 to use as your Blue Ray player. A lot of tests are using it as a benchmark to compare other players against due to its upgradability. You can also watch DVD's, add photos, music and videos all for about the same price of a medium quality priced Blue Ray player. And if you feel like it you can upgrade the HD to a 750GB HD - it's a lot simpler than it sounds -,surf the web, use their online video store to download movies and TV shows....and I think it plays video games too. ;)

Do you have lot of HD-DVDs (WarnerBros)? If you want to get in Blu-Ray, here is a chance......

WB is offering owners of SOME of it's HD-DVD movies the opportunity to "upgrade" to Blu-Ray for $4.95 plus the HD-DVD cover art. You can keep the box and disc! The only downside is that not all WB movies are available...you get to keep the HD DVD disc, you just send in the cover. So ending up with both the HD DVD and Blu-Ray discs

Its only $4.95 per Blu-Ray disc.

*$6.95 shipping & handling on each order within the Continental US

BTW, this will be very useful only if you have bought HD-DVDs dead cheap in the recent months/weeks..and have a blu-ray player too or planning to buy one....
