    Hi folks-
As you may know, the School Board is going through the process of redrawing elementary school boundaries for next year due to the opening of two new schools.....Newton Lee in Belmont Green and Legacy in Brambleton.
As you may also be aware, Mill Run was so overcrowded this year that the 4th and 5th grades were moved to Eagle Ridge.

There are currently four plans under consideration. Of them, Plan 322 is the most advantageous for Mill Run. Unfortunately, I believe it shifts too many students to Hillside.
As a representative of Broadlands, I believe it is important that any adopted school boundary plan needs to be in the best interest for both Mill Run and Hillside. I believe I have such a plan. If Plan 322 were accepted with one change....leaving DN43 (Carisbrooke, Ashburn Knoll, Silo Creek, Parkside) in Mill Run instead of moving it to Hillside......both schools remain below their capacities until the 2007 school year. At this point, an additional school should be opening in Brambleton that will provide relief.

The next planning input session is scheduled for this Wednesday at 6:30pm at Mill Run. I intend to speak before the Board representing numerous residents who support this plan. If you agree with it and will allow me to add your name to the list of those that support it, please send me your name and address. With sufficient support, I believe we can amend the current proposed plan to one that best meets the needs of the Broadlands community.

If you would like to discuss this further, don't hesitate to call. 703-729-7320.

    Hi Cliff,

We have lived in broadlands for just under a year now and we have a 2 year old. Is there anything we need to do as far as registration for elementary school ahead of time? By that I mean are there waiting lists or anything like that or does where you live determine where you go to school and you are automatically in?

    Thanks,
    Jim

    Jim-
You don't need to do anything at this point. The school system tries to find out how many kindergarten children to expect the year before they start. Where you live determines your school.
