I would like to ask anyone who knows if it is legal in VA to park close to or at the corner of a street.

I live on Windy Oaks Square and as I drive to the corner of Windy Oaks and Village (about a block from Claiborne Pkwy)and prepare to make my left onto Village, it is almost impossible to see oncoming traffic from either direction due to the parked cars on Village really close to or actually on the corner itself. I would think common courtesy at least would keep people from parking so close and blocking the view. I'm sure this isn't the only spot in the area where this happens. But if there are no laws preventing this, then I guess it's a moot point.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

Regarding the street parking on Village....is that even allowed? With all the visitors spots that we have why are people parking on the street? There are some areas where VM is still doing construction and there aren't any spaces yet so I understand why people are parking there, but it seems there are others parking in the street just because its closer. I.E. I've noticed over the past few months that in front of some of the single garage townhomes that people will park their second car in the street in front of their house instead of in the community lots which are maybe 5 houses down.

.....Perfectly legal if it's not a fire lane.

I know in some states, I thought VA was one, that one has to park their car a certain distance from the corner. I certainly believe it should be that way. Because it is very dangerous trying to make a left or a right at my corner without pulling pretty far out. And then someone's almost on you.

And yes, I see many owners with two-car garages, still parking their cars out front, not in the driveway but right out front on the street. Now on my street, VM is still building homes and most of the visitor spots are being used.

And I don't think people shouldn't park on Village. I just think they should park a little farther from the corner so people can see and safely make their turns.

    Oh well.

Is anyone familiar with Woodland Park? This is another VM TH community in Herndon where my son lives. Boy...did VM ever miscalculate on parking there. On evenings and weekends there is rarely any available parking.

Reading these threads, it makes me wonder if VM has a pattern of short changing on practical issues such as parking....and making driveways too narrow to get cars into the garages!

I wonder too. On my block, hardly anyone can get both of their cars into the garages. I guess a lot of people have fairly large SUV's. I honestly think we're the only ones on our block who actually park or can park in our garage. And the only real place left to park is on Village. Which in itself, I don't mind, except people are parking so close to or on the corner which makes it hard to see.

parking is expensive to put in (takes up real estate) and the builders usually just do enough to pass county codes. We had exactly 2 spaces per townhouse, no visitor parking at all, in the first place I lived... and there were NO spots for the garage units, the county considered the garage and driveway as their 2 spaces.

These garages were definitely not designed with SUVs in mind. As far as parking near a corner, its Virginia state law that you cannot park within 20 feet of an intersection.

I suggest that if this is happening, call the Sheriff's Dept.
