The proposed path to connect Stone Hollow and Highview Trail place is flagged - same thing happened last year, no results. Anyone know if the path is actually going in - and the proposed playground along the path. Thanks...

Last I heard there was a homeowner who was upset (and maybe suing? not sure) that the playground was going in adjacent to their property. I don't know if this has been resolved but could be the reason for the delay.

Are there any HOA/developer members here that are in the know? I would be interested in getting involved to advocate a position for the homeowners that desire the path and playground and purchased under the assumption that one would be installed. I would be willing to volunteer my time to help on this issue.

I can't speak for the path, but the playground plan has been moved to the other end of Stone Hollow. If you've noticed the wooden bridge that has been built off of Claiborne just past Stone Hollow - that is where the playground will be - they are supposed to start putting it in very soon. They are also trying to get a "play field" proffered in addition to the playground. It affects our property - they are building on an area that they said would remain untouched. :(

I am not familiar with this particular streatch of pathway. So I can not say one way or another but I can ask at our board meeting tomorrow night and have a follow up here after the meeting.

It would be interesting to know if the "advocates" of the path are people who will not have to be affected by it...

I would assume so. There are also probably more unaffected advocates, than affected homeowners. I for one chose not to buy my house with a planned path in my backyard, but that is just personal preference. Those people might have desired a path in their back yard for one reason or another.

Just thought I would provide everyone an update on this project. We've had written and verbal communication with Van Metre over the last couple of weeks. The playground and a play lawn is definitely going to be at the location close to the intersection of Stone Hollow and Claiborne. They will begin the construction starting next week. The actual play equipment is expected in the fall.

They felt like this was the best location for the community. We are still a little disappointed that they are disturbing an area that was supposed to remain untouched, particularly after paying a lot premium.

Van Metre did listen to our concerns and made changes to the plans to minimize the impact to us and our neighbors. I am grateful that we were able to have that interaction and work together. I hope they will do the same for the residents at the other end of Stone Hollow that wanted the playground to remain at that location.

This is actually pretty unbelievable. I know people (in addition to Merlin) who paid a lot premium, and relied on the fact that that area would remain untouched. Buyers were specifically and repeatedly told (and VM doesn't dispute this) that the tot lot would only affect certain lots on that stretch of Stone Hollow. Now, not only have they moved the tot lot to the new area, they have added a 2000-plus square foot "play field" there as well, which of course means that at least 2000 square feet of trees behind these homes will be taken down. Worst of all, in my opinion, this was all done without VM or anyone else ever saying one word to the affected homeowners. Until yesterday (7/22), in a letter informing the homeowners that the project would begin this Monday, July 24. Disgraceful if you ask me. They may end up putting that in, but I am sure it will not go in without a fight.

I got that notice yesterday as well. The first thing I thought when I saw it was that it looks like the new plan is going to effect a lot more people than the original plan. I had no idea they were going to put this in that close to our house.

I hate to say this .. but unless you got it in writing, nothing you were told by the salespeople are binding on the developer. Its actually kind of funny that the two different areas of VM really don't talk to one another.

Also ... speaking from afar, sounds like a touch of NIMBYism too !! People want the Tot Lots, but not by them ... can't have it both ways !

Based on our discussions with VM, no major trees will be removed, it's mostly a question of clearing underbrush. The planned play field is much smaller than originally proposed - that was the most significant concession VM made after we voiced our concerns.

It doesn't bother me at all :) I was just shocked as to the new location. The old one looked more logical to me.

Is there going to be a parking lot like most of the others based in Broadlands (i.e. both pool playgrounds, by old visitor center, by both tennis courts). Is it "walk to" only? Either way I would recommend putting up a fence aroud your yard if you live near by becuase due to the awkward location kids will undoubtedly cut through your yard to get to it.

None of the Tot Lots have parking lots, they are only accessible via the trails.

I had heard that Van Metre cancelled the plans for the tot lot at Claiborne/Stone Hollow (after clearing the land.)
Haven't heard what their plans are now.

    WHAT? Good Heavens.

The path has been done for about a week now. It's a little sad, however, that it ends in the STREET on Stone Hollow, rather than a sidewalk. Not the safest plan in the world. But we're happy to have it and use it regularly. Guess I won't hold out hope on the tot lot, though. We have none up here in this part of SW... it would have been nice.
