We have Home Shield and I don't have spiders in the house. Good thing or I'd have a heart attack.

anyway jus wanted feedback on Preventive- I am not unhappy with superior, but am always willing to check out the competition if they ARE better...

haah, redon, yer a hoot =) I'm too cheap to pay for that stuff... only thing we have to deal with is ants, and baby-sized spiders, but it's all good 8)

I keep a long-handled fly swatter for use on the indoor critters, that is, if Renfield doesn't find it first and eats it.

I would rather have critters than the chemicals they use to eradicate them.

I use terro products. Environmentally friendly, pet safe, and very very effective. Especially against ants. www.terro.com They have a spider spray. I've not used it but based on their other products, I'd try it if needed.

YAY! Broadlands has gone from cow farm, to new baby community, back to a luscious green place to live, so here come all the bugs, next... mice?

We used Orkin for years, and except for one time when they used the "dangerous" stuff, they were completely useless for regular pests (once in a while termite treatment is probably still smart though). We had the spider barrier too, but the spray for around doors and windows is only temporary and they will find their way in!

Ants: best option is the 24 hour ant traps that have the water in them. The dual sugar/protein traps work ok too, but not as fast as the above. You have to poke holes in the bottom for the flat dual bait traps or the tiny ants can't get in (and keep away from small kids of course)

Spiders: Raid house and garden and/OR weekly vacuum of door areas and basement windows during warm months.

Houseflies: We have 3 rescue cats and no fly ever lasts long!

Fruitflies: an empty beer bottle with some sweet beer or wine with a paper cone stuck in the top (saw that in a bar bathroom recently lol). Always check your kids' rooms and other hiding spots for partially eaten food. We had a kid hide a partially eaten container of ice cream behind a TV stand and the fruit fly farm was *unbelievable*.

    Best of luck!

FYI, we found a HUGE black widow spider in our garage a few weeks ago. Almost gave me a heart attack because I didn't realize that we had black widows around here. Yuck!

We used Superior and though they were very nice as mentioned above, they were not able to get rid of our spider problem. They told us that since part of our basement was unfinished that we would likely continue to see them. Does that make sense to anyone? We stopped using them b/c my husband thought he could find a similar solution at home depot and do it himself. The result: still seeing huge wolf spiders often enough to make me shake out my blankets and lift up toys w/ caution whenever I'm down there. Does anyone else have spider probs or just lucky me?

We haven't sprayed insecticide/pesticides for years! So few spiders that the ones we do come across we leave alone (except the funnel spider that bit me), since they are obviously eating something smaller in order to survive.

superior did explain that b/c so little of a spider touches the ground the sprays aren't as effective, but somehow they are controlling them at OUR house. a we live near lots of trees and i NEVER see a live one my house. maybe they are breeding somewhere in your basement and finding then killing that nest of 8 legged freaks is the key? we also have an unfinished basement and no issues that i am aware of.

YES! We have been in our townhouse, across the street hillside, for 2+ years and have had big spiders in the house all year round. We see a lot of funnel spiders and recently a lot of the "half cricket/half spider" spiders. Ever seen those? I have tried adding extra insulation to the door in the front and to the garage. Nothing has worked. My fiance had symptoms of a brown recluse spider bite but we have never seen one. Our town house backs to a wooded area. That must increase the number of spiders around. How much does pest control cost???

CALL SUPERIOR. i know we pay $100 (don't ask me the time frame- i want to say yearly- but the fact that we live right next to woods and trails, have a decent sized yard and didn't even have a CRICKET problem in the late summer- they are doing something right. this is the 2nd home we've had treated with them. they come ANYTIME you call with our plan- i have tested it. they treat everything and i am telling you- EVERYTHING with 6 or more legs DIES or just goes away. i don't even find a ton of dead bugs or spiders- just a few.

understand that i am DEATHLY, clinically afraid of most creatures with more than 4 legs- i should be in therapy or on a reality show, it's so bad. i saw one of those cricket/spider things on a window once at a restaurant- outside, mind you- and i was so shaken up my eyes were teary and my breath got short and acc. to my husband i turned a strange shade between brown and green. my heart is thumping now remembering it.:scaredhide:

if there is a nest or infestation i bet they will find it, and if they don't the answer is simple:

MOVE. pack yer stuff and MOVE.
