Can anyone recommend a kennel? I am looking for a super clean facility that can provide medical care while we are on travel. One of our cats is diabetic and requires regular insulin injections. Thanks

What about using an in-home pet sitter? I have heard about this Pet Sitting Service and they seem to have a good reputation.

This is a suggestion for anytime you leave an animal in someone's care. Write a letter that you can leave w/the sitter that says in the case of a medical emergency, you will allow (or not allow, or want to be notified before) any medical care necessary. Having worked at the Emergency Vet in Leesburg, I've realized how helpful this info is. That way the vets know that they can or can't treat the animal and that can save precious time in an emergency. You also need to mention that you will be responsible for costs incurred or that you want to be notified if costs will be over a certain amount..or any stipulation you want them to know. Also leave any and all phone #'s and addresses that they can use to reach you. And list any medicines the pet is currently on, it's current vet, age, name, all info that a sitter may not know.

I have had my cats board at Old Mill in Leesburg three different occasions. The "cat loft" is very clean and the ladies there are all sweet and caring. Old Mill is a very nice facility with a full service vet clinic right on the premises. The front desk guy "Timmy" is very... well, "out there' but if you can get by that, the rest of the staff is wonderful and the owner is a nice guy. (I only mentioned Timmy because it is sort of a shock to see a guy with blue eye shadow.)
Their # is 777-4183 I know they will let you come and look around.

But, yeah, if you can get a reliable home sitter that would be ideal.

I have been taking my two dogs to Old Mill for several years and I love them. They are very devoted to the animals. A good friend of mine has also had very positive experiences with them. He adopted a rescue that a short time later became VERY ill.... like on deaths door ill. Old Mill went out of their way to treat and even absorbed some costs (it was VERY expensive...blood transfusions, specialists). Today that dog is happy and healthy.

So in conclusion.... kennel is great (Timmy is a doll) and the onsite vet is top notch.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am definitely going to call Old Mill it sounds exactly what we are looking for. We have used a pet sitting service in the past (Pets-N-Plants, if anyone is interested) and we have always been pleased, in fact they were the ones who felt our old cat might be ill. But given our cats medical needs we would feel better having him in a place with a vet on site as the insulin can cause worse problems then the diabetes itself in the short term. Thanks again.

Oh don't misunderstand me. I think Timmy is a really wonderful guy. Just, some people don't know what to think.
Timmy has always been very professional and courteous. I have never ever had a problem with anyone at Old MIll. I know all of the women in the cat loft. So, just to say again, I was not dissing Timmy. :)

    no worries sk8r :) ..... didn't think you were

    as for Kit & Kaboodle
A friend of mine who used them was robbed by one of their employees this weekend. The woman took all her meds ....even baby asprin and cat medicine!
The police called HER because said woman was in the hospital on an overdose and one of the meds found at her home was from my friend. She had stolen ALOT of meds from other folks and was known to the police as having this problem. So I don't know how thorough Kit & Kaboodle's management is on background checks.

I second that for NOT using Kit N Kaboodle. We used to use their services and dropped them due to POOR management and high turn over of the dog walkers. We have heard through several former employees and clients about the lack of professionalism in that company, mainly the woman who owns the company.

I appreciate the heads up. I had no idea. That is terrible.

Oh my goodness! So sorry for providing a bad referral.

By any chance, did anyone have their dog at Old Mill Pet Care over this past weekend (5/9-5/12)? I had my dog there and now he is extremely ill. I just wanted to know if anyone elses dog is having a problem if they were there. Thanks.
