Not at this point in time for either issue. However the pools do call each other to let them know when the other is experiencing an issue (Ie contamination, capacity, etc.) So the guards form 1 pool at capacity can always send people to another pool until they hear otherwise.

Just let me say the outside memberships is not at all what caused us to hit capacity on Monday. I was there handing back cards and of the 100's I handed back only 5 were outside members.

Staci - thanks for the quick response on my questions - maybe it is something we can look into for next season - is it a software issue?

Maybe we could "post" the telephone #'s to each pool (I can design something for the July newsletter) or get residents into the habit of calling before hand? Also the guards could "gently" remind residents that the other pools maybe worth checking out...before the homeowners go away upset?

If memory serves me correctly the "outside membership" is usually a hot topic and the scape goat for capacity issues, all the while it does generate a nice revenue stream.

THANK YOU for your endless efforts - it is much appreciated!

What scanning system is everyone talking about? I usually only go to the Community Ctr. pool and each time the lifeguard takes my card....I don't see any scanners.

yeah it seems like a bunch of our money was spent on this new system and it's not being utilized like it could be.

I think the pool is fine. It's no different than any other neighborhood pool.

Our family had a blast after going to Summerbrooke twice this weekend. Efficient card scanning and consistent. Recommended the kids pool is cleaned better the first day and the next day it was great! Great listening. Noticed woodwork added to front entrance and some nice painting. We had a great experience!

Look forward to a fun summer at Summerbrooke!

I am calm.. I tend to treat outrageously bad comments with equally outrageous ones myself. It usually has the desired effect!

The pool ID cards have reaped tremendous benefits regardless of how well the "scanning" process is actually working. By simply issuing ID cards with pictures on them, and requiring proof of address to get them, we have cut down on a huge amount of abuse.

Also Staci, let me add a voice of concern in regard to Summerbrooke pool on Demott. When asking a Guard a simple safety question, I get the response "I no speak english". As another person noted, this may be a cause for concern... and may also contribute to the questions about their ability to function in a job where they are REQUIRED to inform members of the rules, blow the whistles and keep order???? I am all for equal opportunity but we need to seriously check on all the qualifications or capabilities of the staff that are being used/hired. Not once did this particular Guard blow the whistle even though there were serious (but innocent) problems happening right in front of him (and he is Portuguese.. not an easy language to understand unless you know Spanish).

As a person from an immigrant family - I am very supportive of immigration and opportunities for all legal residents, but I think these "staff" that come here as part of a summer job exchange program are not necessarily all as prepared as they should be with English abilities.

I am not sure what the solution is from the HOA/community standpoint other than clarifying the expectation with english ability for all staff with the Pool management company. Then you might have to check yourself or ask for help in checking the Guard who are working various shifts...

    Thanks Dave
I am already working on this. Some of the guards we have right now are only temporarily here (in our community) until everyone is out of school. I have personally talked to all the guards that have been here so far and all but one has been able to communicate with me no problem and I do not speak anything but English. My understanding is the one you are talking about, though a lifeguard will not be regularly used as such. He will be asked to do more janitorial tasks and I will continue to follow up on that.
The vast majority have a very strong grasp of English (though they sometimes forget a word) so I have a lot of faith that we will see an increase in the level of enforcement of our pool rules.
The language barrier was a concern of mine form the start so I will continue to monitor it through out the season and make changes where they need to be made. Safety is the most important thing for me

yea my one encounter with this Guard was obviously limited and isolated. I figured you were on top of this issue and the manager did say that they had concerns and were working on this issue as well. This was the only guard that I tried to talk to so it was just chance that I observed this issue.

Do we know if the employees who don't speak English are in the country legally? If not, I think the community could have some legal exposure for hiring workers illegally. I realize immigration is a politically charged issues and one that many people don't agree on, so my only question is about the legal issues for the community. If the Broadlands is sued or found to be in violation, that would not be a good thing for any of us.

The guards are employees of High Sierra, our pool management company not the HOA. It is their responsibility to check the immigration status of their employees. I believe our contract with High Sierra states that all employees of High Sierra are eligible to work in the US.
