    MEDIA ADVISORY

    TO: Loudoun County Media

FROM: Khalial Withen, Aide to Supervisor Andrea McGimsey

    DATE: December 4, 2008

SUBJECT: Press Conference to Showcase Proposed Brambleton Geothermal Public Safety Center as part of the national initiative “Local Climate Action Week”

A press conference is scheduled for 12:30 p.m., Monday, December 8, 2008, at the Dulles South Public Safety Center, 25216 Loudoun County Parkway, to showcase the proposed Brambleton Public Safety Center, which will be heated and cooled through an energy-saving geothermal system. The center is the type of project that could use funds from a federal economic stimulus package to promote clean energy and greenhouse gas reductions and support the local economy.

Potomac District Supervisor Andrea McGimsey, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Ad Hoc Committee on Energy Efficiency, is hosting the event. Other elected officials, county staff, and local business leaders will also make brief remarks and be available for interviews.

This press conference is part of Local Climate Action Week (December 8-14, 2008) to call on President-elect Obama and the incoming Congress to fund local green job creation and provide tools and resources to empower greater local climate action. Supervisor McGimsey and Supervisor Stevens Miller will highlight their endorsement of the “Empowering Local Climate Action: Blueprint for the New President and 111th Congress,” produced by Climate Communities and ICLEI USA.
