Southern Walk townhomers...and other guilty parties...it would be great if everyone would make an effort to somehow confine their recyclables more efficiently in their tubs. I'm getting tired of hauling plastic milk jugs and soda cans out of my pathway every morning before backing out of my driveway. Some poor pizza delivery guy just about blew a tire last night as I heard him crunching his way along trying to find a house (which is another story altogether and I'll put that in a separate posting).

Residents need to also tie up or bag their newspapers. We often have neighbors newspapers blown onto our driveway and lawn. I hate having to pick them up. The newspapers in the street take away from the nice look of our neighborhood too.

This is the reason why I usually take my recycles to the county dump.

This may come to a shock to you but I think most people neeed to incomes to afford to live here. Add kids to the mix and there is no time make sure the recyclables don't fly away. You say "somehow confine more efficiently...". That's kinda vague. Does yours fly away? If not what do you do differently?

It's not that I don't agree with you that they need to clean up their mess. One of my neighbors left his trash bags on the curb w/o a can. Of course animals got into it and it was windy (as it always is on Tue, Wed, and Fri). After two days of him not cleaning up his mess I bagged it up and put the bags on his doorstep.

I put our newspapers is paper grocery bags. One our neighbors just sets his loose newspapers on top of the cans & bottles in his recycling bin. Oh, and these neighbors do not have any children.

Put all your recycling items in trash bags. That's what we do & it works great.

I'm surprised they take it! I've had issues with them not taking it if it looks like trash.

We put our recycling in plastic grocery bags that are tied. The bags are put into the recycle bin and we have no problems. They've taken our recycling every time. If it was put into the dark green/black trash bags then I can understand them not taking it - looks too much like trash.

Yeah..sorry, I didn't mention that we put the bags in the recycle bins as opposed to just leaving them on the curb.

I really love waking up in the morning to a neighborhood full of trash...in Southern Walk.

If you have a trash can without a lid please buy one. It seems that every night before trash day the wind decides to blow and trash cans fall over discarding trash everywhere. Put something heavy on top of your can if it isn't full.

Please try to keep our neighborhood clean...it's bad enough the construction workers leave their trash all over the place.

I put my lid on the can for the first time three years ago and they dumped it into truck. I never got it back. I'm not going to buy a new one either. Lidders beware.

What does income, kids, grad school, and a three hour commute have to do with securing your trash? First of all littering in Loudoun Co. in against the law. Secondly maybe you need to think about quitting grad school or move closer to your work.By doing one or the other this will give you the extra sixty seconds a day to secure your trash.

I agree. It's called Common Courtesy. I have a young child, work, etc and my trash and recycling are taken care of. Some people just need to be more courteous to their neighbors.

I have a couple kids I'd like to recycle from time to time. Do I put a cover on them, or use the plastic bag approach?:D

I think putting a cover on them is fine. Not too much of a problem even with the wind...

seriously now, put your papers in a bag and bag up your other stuff. We use the little bags that the newspaper comes in for cans and plastic.
You can even use the bags to tie milk bottles together. It is not that hard, really, come on. The peeps that let their trash go all over the place are just lazy and sloppy. These are probably the same peeps that don't clean up after their dogs. You peeps need to cut it out and be cooperative recyclers and poop cleaner-uppers or we will sprinkle weed seeds in your yard, or maybe worse!!

Mike, lots of things are against the law, like the speeding on Claiborne. But nothing gets done about it. Litter is low on the totem pole. I didn't say you shouldn't secure your trash. I didn't say that I did or that I even had kids - I don't. I just don't like people being judgemental - like you are. How dare you assume to tell me to quit Grad school or move! You don't know anything about me to make such statements. To suggest I radically change my life to allot more time to beautifing my recyclables to your standards is preposterous! You obviously live a priveledged life if you don't need education and live close to your work. This area does not work that way for the majority of people.

I may not tie up my papers or bag my cans but I do clean up the common area when my recyclables have blown away. I clean up the common area when it's not my trash. Can you say the same?

Homer, if only you spent a few more seconds securing your garbage and less time trashing up this community bulletin board...

Those are fighting words. What do you mean by them? I really take offense to the trashing the boards comments. Some of your posts aren't that grand either, Sunny D. My garbage is secured btw. It's my recyclables that I don't go overboard with. Over all, my recyclables don't fly around b/c I do put the heavy items on top. It's a rare occurance when some of my stuff flies around. It's my neighbors who don't secure their garbage.
