Looking to take my dad out for his birthday (70th) this Sunday. I am looking for a nice place (we need to be dressed properly - no jeans as my mother states but we don't need to have ties or jackets either), not ultra expensive or super ultra fancy plus there will be 6 and 3 year old children (so kid friendly). I am looking to eat between 12 - 3, so brunch (being that it is Sunday), late lunch or very early dinner. My dad eats anything but I think I am looking for a place that serves American fare (offers a little bit of everything). Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. We can head either east or west, makes no difference to us so throw the ideas out there please.

I agree with Villager; Clyde's has a nice brunch. I would also recommend Light Foot (in Leesburg)

Tuscarora Mill in Leesburg is good also but I think Clydes may be your best bet since you will have young children.

LightFoot i think is better than Clydes, especially if mom wants to see people "properly dressed"! Clydes is good but definitely more casual.

I totally agree with Redon - My vote goes to Lightfoot too. Clydes is nice in atmosphere, but not food in my opinion. I've been there for brunch and it's nothing special, Lightfoot MUCH better!!

Lightfoot has much better food than Clydes. I guess it would depend on (at least for me) on how well your children do at restaurants. My younger two wouldn't last at Lighfoot. However, I haven't been to the brunch, only dinner, so it could be more family oriented then when I was last there.

Lightfoot has the best brunch around. Plus the restaurant is beautiful.

Depending on how many people you have in your party you can try and request the private dining room at Clyde's as well...We were there with 6 of us for the inlaws anniversary but I'd guess you could get about 8 people in there comfortably? and a little bit of room for the kids to move around? (It is immediately to the right upon entering the restaurant). Or if the weather cools down a bit when you go, it is nice sitting on the outdoor patio and the kids might enjoy the water fountain/fish. Best wishes! :)

For a Sunday Brunch, we went to Blue Ridge Grill in Brambleton, and it was pretty good. My husband and mom are both huge eggs Benedict fans, and they loved it there. The french toast was pretty tasty as well. We've never seen it very busy, so kids there probably wouldn't be an issue.

I haven't been there to know what it's like but there is a place in the shopping center where the Sterling Target/PetSmart/ToysRus is called Bistro Bistro that offers brunch. Their website makes it look very classy.

Clyde's has a great brunch and dress can range from casual to a little more dressy.

http://www.nyajoes.com/ Not Your Average Joes at Lansdowne ... they have a great lunch selection but not brunch food.

Oops, I see that your dad's birthday has already passed, but maybe you can go to NYAJoes some other time! :)

How about one of the many restaurants on Restaurant Row on Waxpool.
