We live in a reverse-built Spruce; however, Van Metre also reversed the washer and dryer (washer on the right and dryer on the left).

Now that we have upgraded to a front-load washer (and will be adding the front-load dryer soon), the doors now open in opposition.

What is involved in moving the dryer (gas) to the right?...how big of a deal is this?...expected cost, etc.

It looks like the washer has enough tubing / cabling top be moved to the left.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts / suggestions

You can change the door on most front loading units to open either way.

Ours, while not a spruce, was built that way too. Nutty. And we have a front loader washer too, but the washer guy told us we couldn't (or maybe it was shouldn't... don't recall exactly) switch our door because it wouldn't seal properly or something. Ours is an LG... maybe your model is different. Anyway, my husband did swap our machines. He just got an extra long vent tube...

Wait. Never mind. I see yours is gas. Ours is electric. Never mind.

    Yep, thanks...

To narrow down, is there some gas line extension that can be used or does the "whole shootin' match" have to be corrected?

Are these units upstairs? If so, one concern you may have is the drain pan under the washer. I believe it's code that a drain pan must be installed and connected to the drain in the floor. If I am correct, swapping the units would violate that. Personally I'd investigate just reversing the doors only first if you haven't already. Some units will allow this.

We have the same issue. Our laundry closet is on the top floor and the connections are backwards. We bought the front loading Whirlpool washer/dryer (both electric) and the doors open back to back. The dryer door can be switched, but we have not done this as it wouldn't really help as the washer door cannot be switched. In the beginning I did try to obtain a quote to have the two moved, but could not find anyone to do it.

I, too, would be interested in having this changed as it is a pain to move clothes from the washer to the dryer.

Tiger, not sure of your model but for our front end machines, I switched the doors.

Most machines built today have that capability I do believe.

If both are electric, then we're in the same boat, because our washer door couldn't be changed either. My husband bought an extra long vent pipe for th dryer and just switched the machines himself. A bit of bull-work since those puppies aren't light, but he did it. We just had to leave them a bit farther out from the wall than they were before to make room for the long venting.
