    Fellow Foodies--

The WBJ (Washington Biz Journal) reported on January 5, 2007 edition that Ruth's Chris Steak House will replace Harry's Essential Grill in Vienna, VA. Apparently, Harry's did not do well and closed December 22, 2006. We frequented Harry's and thought the food was good but I think it was a hard area to serve the dining population. Ruth's Chris will open by Fall 2007.

The former location of Harry's (Fedora's Cafe old location) will be where Ruth's Chris will be located. Maybe Ruth's Chris will be do better--the one in Fairfax Corners near Coastal Flats is great!

    Good eats??

I've eaten at various Ruth's Chris steakhouses around there area...and i always get a good slab of beef (sizzling on the plate no less).....but $ for $...i'd eat at Flemings any day of the week over Ruth's Chris....priced about the same....the atmosphere is better at Flemings and the side dishes (creamed spinach for sure!!!) are better at Flemings....but that's my opinion.

Of course..if someone says "hey woop...you wanna hit Ruth's Chris for some chow"---i wouldn't say no! :D

Ditto that! Paul Fleming (also the "PF" in PF Chang's) knows how to run a restaurant. And the WINE LIST?!

We just got a Fleming's here and I'd like to check it out. Before I make an *** of myself...what's the dress code? I noticed they had 'valet parking' (the restaurant has it's own parking lot in which no space is more than 25yds from the door...not sure what kind of valet service is necessary here), so I'm expecting they fancy themselves highbrow and a jacket may be required. :(

Brim... I doubt a jacket would be REQUIRED. It is definitely more comfortable than a Ruth's Chris. I would suggest if you're in khaki's and a shirt with a collar you'd be fine.

Aren't restaurants with dress codes few and far between any more? Heck... I went to Spago in Beverly Hills after coming straight from the beach and they welcomed me (and my expense account) with open arms.

Isn't Flemings owned by the same group that runs Outback & Bonefish?

BTW, Harry's Essential was very good, but hated the location.

Not really... Paul Fleming (who owned and operated some Ruth's Chris franchises for 10 years or so) DID start a joint venture with the Outback franchise, but its a chinese restaurant, I think... not Flemings. Flemings is his own gig and not associated, to the best of my knowledge, with anyone else.

(Its been a few years, but he used to be my client when I lived in AZ, so some of his business surely could have changed.)

i've never worn a jacket in Flemings....I believe i've even gone so far as .....GASP...wear dark jeans...with a nice shirt of course. if i'm paying $35 for a steak with no sides...then they can deal with me wearing no jacket. Flemings has always struck me as nice---but without the snooty attitude. They don't go out of their way to be stuffy..and the wait staff is great.

and whoever said morton's blows...i second that! went their for my first valentine's with my wife----and i guess since we didn't each order the $75 lobster, we weren't worth waiting on. so we got a luke warm steak in a crap atmosphere. haven't stepped foot back since.

I agree. I had a vendor take me there for lunch one day and it was 'eh'...nothing special.

I agree--way too expensive for the quality of the food.

I've always been partial to Ruth's Chris. Their Arlington restaurant is on the top floor of a building in Crystal City and overlooks Reagan Airport--great views!

I also like the Capital Grille a lot -- they have a DC and Tyson's location (www.thecapitalgrille.com). Their restaurants have a glass-encased "dry aging" locker/refrigerator when you first walk in--very cool!

Never made it to Flemings, but heard good things about it.

gott tell you about Mortons- we went to the DC location with another couple for my birthday and their anniversary on a saturday night- our 2nd morton's visit, their first. no mention of either occasion with our greeting though both were mentioned when the reservation was made. horrible service, overcooked steaks, incorrect orders, lousy sides- 2 orders of creamed spinach and NEITHER look alike, nor was either any good.

i wrote to the GM and told him how horrible the exerience was IN DETAIL- from the uninformed wine steward to the uninterested wait staff. how embarrassed we were to have brought our friends there for such a special evening, and we would never go there again.

not only did the GM respond with a long email apologizing and requesting the time of our visit and approximate seating location so he could identify who was working our section, but he called me the same day, apologized, asked for my address, and sent me a $200 gift certificate and asked me to please give them another chance.

so the next month, we did. we were greeted by name, shown to a quiet table in the back, given top notch service by the manager and the most knowledgable and attentive waiter i have ever seen, and the food was PERFECT. the manager brought liquers to go with our dessert, on him. when the bill came, we went to pay for the overage and the alcohol- the manager covered it all and thanked s for giving them another chance!

ummm- we haven't been back since because RC has bettter food, but boy am i glad i complained- that was an AMAZING dining experience!!! they went above and beyond to correct a wrong- too bad the correction wasn't indicative of their standard performance.
