Anyone have any recent recommendations for screen porch designers/builders? We want to put it on an existing deck which might require some deck modifications. Anyway, if you know of anyone, I'd appreciate your input.

    thanks.

Kenny Williams Construction did a great job on our porch, but they were non-existent when we called to have some things repaired (warped boards, popped nails, etc). Those things were part of the 5 year warranty on the project, but many, many, many calls were not returned. When the same company showed up to do a neighbor's porch, I asked the foreman if he would come over to my place so I could show him what I needed done and could he pass this information along to Kenny himself. Nope. Not a chance. I heard so many excuses from the company regarding why no one called - someone was sick (I even was given 'he has MS' as an excuse), someone died, it's been busy, we haven't received your voicemails, etc. Like I said, they did a great job on the project and the estimate was in line with what we planned (they weren't the cheapest nor the most expensive), but their lack of follow-up was really unprofessional.

Thanks luftinarr. Post-completion follow-up is a common issue it seems. Did you ever get your issues resolved?

Anyone else have recommendations or un-recommendations?

I'll spare you the details regarding our deck, but I second the "un-recommendation" for Kenny Williams. We're getting ready to rip it out re-do it.

We used Holloway for our Patio and outdoor kitchen. I know they do screened in porches, but can't comment on the quality of porches as we don't have one. We are very pleased with the quality of work for the patio.

The warranty issue we had was handled farily well. Somehow after the first call for a warranty repair we got lost in the shuffle and I started to worry, but they came and did the repairs the very next day after our second call with no hassles.

http://www.potomacwestcc.com/ Very nice people but not cheap
http://www.sunburstdeck.com/ Again, seemed very qualified but not cheap

I interviewed both but put the project on hold. Prices were $20-26k over an existing deck. I like the proposal and drawings from potomac west but the price was a little better at sunburst. I have seen both their work here in Broadlands south and would put it on my house (if the price were cheaper *smile*).

I should caveat that I'm an extreme DIYer and not many contractors get to do work at my house. I have high standards and I'm too cheap to pay anyone! (which is why I DIY) ;)

My dad always said .. don't pay people to do what you don't want to do, pay them to do what you can't.

I would recommend Woodscape construction out of leesburg. They did a great job on my porch at an excellent price. Http://www.woodscape.com.

Holloway did our deck and patio two years ago. We were happy with the results but I DID need to stay on top of them for some of the detail work. It all turned out rather well in the end and we've received numerous compliments when we host a function.

After reading the previous posts, I'm glad we opted not to go with Kenny Williams; they were the other company we were seriously considering.
