In this thread we heard from VACliff, who's not a big fan of this.

Vam Metre owns 0 of 9 seats on the BHOA Board. There is one Van Metre employee who sits on the Board, but she ran, and was elected by, the residents.

Yea, there had been some talk about that recently... which makes we wonder how Openband can compete and stay in business. Their products are not so good when put up against the market and they have no chance to grow without a Franchise license with the county IMHO....

I'm curious if it's a 'bulk agreement' or not... the teaser didn't suggest so. Considering SW has been lagging behind them in solutions, I'm curious to hear what they are rolling out.

Although I appreciate the efforts SWHOA BOD members, I have to agree with 'flynnibus' as well as several of my neighbors on this issue. Engaging in yet another bulk agreement after an easement buy-out with what is turning into variables attached now, may not be the direction homeowners want to pursue. Homeowners advised the BOD during an annual meeting held in the Broadlands Nature Center a few years ago, that they did not want the BOD to represent them in seeking or obtaining any contracts after Openband was removed from the equation and further indicated they did not see a need for the SWHOA or its BOD after Openband's departure. Since then the BOD's direction has been just the opposite of what was discussed in that meeting. The easement purchase that was briefed as the final answer is now being described as having variables attached that are not in the homeowners' best interest, but instead to Openband's long term advantage if they elect to reaffirm. As we enter into yet another bulk agreement and the SWHOA BOD continues to exist as a quasi 'collection house' for another service contractor, we will continue to pay HOA fees for a collection service, disgruntled homeowners will continue to refuse to pay, responsible homeowners will continue to shoulder the expense of the non-paying shortfalls, and law suits will continue to be distinct possibilities. Keep in mind these fees are in addition those paid to the service provider for actual communication services provided. This appears to be a redundant 'self licking ice cream cone'. similar to what many homeowners considered it to be. Real short term advantages, long term advantages, money well spent????

You know... after reading and generally appreciating your knowledge and input on these forums over the years, I have to say that this message surprised me. Since the meeting you mentioned, some members of the Board, including some leadership has changed... options have changed and it seems like you are not as broadly informed as you could be. And I am curious, do you actually know how many homeowners are actually "non-paying"?

Unfortunately, the way you post your message... you seem to want people to get the impression that it is significant. First of all... I can tell you from listening to the financial reports that it is not. Maybe someone from the Board can chime in with actual examples but the other point to consider is that if a homeowner does actually get into payment trouble, the collection activities usually have positive results and then, if needed, I believe a lien can be placed for when the house is sold. So the SWHOA gets its money back. I just take issue with your characterization that the "responsible homeowners shoulder the expense". Sure there are periods of time that this happens but it is minimal and I would bet, gets paid back at some point.

And until I see more than one homeowner actually show up at a SWHOA meeting voicing the concerns you speak of... it is just noise on the Forum that goes nowhere... ice cream not withstanding.

We had some very constructive conversations at the Annual meeting (my opinion) and many of these related issues like the ones you raise were discussed. And again, it seemed to me that the majority of homeowners understood where the Board stood...generally understood where we were going... and that included having a reasonable level of comfort to where the money was going. There were critical questions asked...and honest answers were provided. Sorry if you were there, just trying to get a better sense of what you are trying to accomplish with a post like this....
