We are looking for suggestions for patio contractors. I'd rather go with someone recommended than based on a flyer in the mail or looking in the phonebook.

    Thanks!

    Brim,
Since there are new people joining these forums every day, I think that there are not only new questions (and old, as you point out) but new answers as well. And plenty of old-heads on this forum might have built a patio just this spring!
It is kind of you to direct someone to the links, but I think the admonishment "search search search" might put off our curious newcomer.
I would have emailed you this comment but there is no contact info available for you.

klewis- Virginia Deck & Patio built our deck ahead of schedule, great quality, and fair price. I haven't seen his patio work. Call the owner, Mike, at 703-723-7676.
    Good luck!

Thats why you should open and update an existing thread instead of starting a new one so all of your information is in one place rather than scattered about in seven different threads.

Virginia Deck and Patio did our deck and patio. I highly recommend them. The work was completed in a timely manner and the finished product is beautiful.

What kind of patio do you want? I just put in stamped concrete - it looks great - low maint. and durable. Several patterns and many colors to choose from.
I used ConcreteFX - they are out of Warrenton, but had the best price out of the 3-4 estimates I got.
Allen is the owner - 540-439-9609

Thank you for the suggestions......... both for the contractors and for the availability of the search function. I did not realize that there was a search function available since this message board is so new to me. I appreciate the help.

    Beahmer,

Do u have any pictures of the patio. I was thinking about stamped concrete but heard that since we had clay soil here it cracks easier. Any problems with cracking? And also how much sq foot and how much did u pay? If u dont mind me asking.

No craking so far but it has only been in for a month or so. There is a lot of interest/business in this stuff around NOVA so hopefully long term maintenance wont be an issue.
    $14/sq foot

We're looking to do something to our front stoop and walk. To have it overlayed with flagstone, estimates run $4000-$5000. Stamped concrete is $1800.

Potomic Patio is a really good one too! They were professional, and did a really good job.

Brim, ease up on the new guys, it's a community forum.

If nobody says anything, they'll never know. That being said, they should know anyhow...what modern forum software have you ever seen that didn't have a search function?

I have a stamped concrete patio installed about two years ago. Its gray and the pattern looks similar to slate.

As far as cracking goes, there is some but you would not normally notice them unless you were really looking for them.

I would recommend it. Its amazing how many different patterns and colors they have available that might not normally be available using traditional methods.

Here is a website that describes the method used:

My wife and I have been debating wether to go with stamped concrete or flagstone for our patio. After some debate, we're going the stamped concrete route. Here are the prices for both stamped concrete and flagstone that we found from contractors:

    Stamped concrete
    Stone Images - $13 sq/ft
    StampCon - $12 sq/ft
    Sunburst - $15.50 sq/ft

    Flagstone
    Perfect Pavement - $24 sq/ft
    Potomac Patio - $23.40~ sq/ft

Wow, the stamped concrete is so much less expensive! I suppose it can or will settle and crack as much as the mortared flagstone, which is our current dilema - mortar or not mortar.

To make a long story short, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT get any patio/concrete work done by Stone Images based out of Chantilly, VA. TRUST ME. Feel free to email me if you need any additional info. While this wasn't my case, the circumstances are earily similar and apparently Dan Bennett has a history of taking money and producing a shoddy project: http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff134108.htm

Whoever you contract with, make sure Dan is not involved...his direct # is 703-906-2970.[}:)]
