My 6 year old son currently attends after school care at a local day care center. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to place him during the summer? Our day care center offers summer camp. The director told me that the teachers bus the children to various places -- playgrounds, swimming pools, museums, etc. I'm not sure how I feel about that because we are putting a lot of trust into young teachers. My son is not a good swimmer so I worry about the possibility of drowning; I also worry about the teachers making some of these outings "social hour" and not keeping a close eye on him (which means, I'm worried about him getting lost or taken in crowded places). For those of you who work, what are you doing with your children? Did you encounter some of these concerns? My son also has food allergies. If any of you have experiences around this (as it relates to summer camp and/or outstanding care at a local daycare), please share! Thanks!

Little Sprouts Preschool (home based in Broadlands) has summer camps. They only have 5 kids in each class with 1 teacher so there is plenty of supervision and one on one attention. They are a Peanut Free school and can accommodate other allergies as well. All of the teachers are mature women (no teenagers) with extensive teaching/childcare experience and have children of their own. Summer schedule Monday through Friday 9am-2pm, Kids are 2-8 yr old, 5 kids with 1 teacher. -Lots of arts and crafts and water activities everyday. They have water activities everyday but no swimming - sprinkler hoses, inflatable water slide, slip in slide, water balloons, bounce house, obstacle course etc. None of the water activities have standing water of more than 12 in and that is just at the end of the water slide.
