    Hi,

I live in a Town home on AVONWORTH SQ which backs to the wooded area. My neighbor had a recent home inspection. The inspector had informed her of termites in the dead trees in the wooded area opening from our back yard. She has had a FULL TERMITE TREATMENT done post that shocking revelation. She has informed her immediate neighbours of this issue and that is the reason I'm bringing it up here.

I'm asking for advice on how to go about this. We moved in 1 1/2 years ago - I remember the builder had provided termite protection. But there are a few DEAD TREES in the area and I think it will be great if the HOA can have it checked and call in the builder too for redress if the case warranties. It is not a single home owner's issue. This will affect the community as a whole. Please let know..

termites are everywhere in the woods.. and can even be in your yard. That's natural and to be expected.

When your home is inspected for termites, they only check that termites are not infesting in your house proper. They don't try to eliminate termites anywhere outside your property or 'near-by'.

In short.. termites out in the woods is natural and the way its supposed to be. They do not pose a risk to your house.

One small thing to keep in mind; if the termites are busy eating dead trees, they're staying away from your home ;)

Could the termite inspector also have been trying to make a sale? Kind of like the scare tactics that the door-to-door security companies use.

I couldn't help but chuckle when I read this thread. It reminded me of some of my neighbors in awe at the fact that we have oppossum and raccoons in our community. I don't think they're ever seen the coyote or fox though which may or (may not) be a good thing. I am cynical, though, when it comes to exterminators. I know people who have been trying, since last winter, to rid their house of mice and the extermintator told them they have mice because their neighbor feeds the bird in the woods. And I said the same thing Linux said - the mice would not be in the house if they were eating the bird seed outside. Now if the birdseed is in the house - that's different. Mice usually come indoors in the winter to stay warm.
Their exterminator is using a mouse bait that causes extreme thirst and dehydration so they fine droppings near the water sources in the house. Nice! But still no mice, (caught) that is.
