Terrible Greenway Experience...

    Well...I learned the hard way that one does not back up when approaching toll booths on the Greenway!

    As I was coming into the smart tag lane for the main Greenway toll booth, the car ahead of me ran into difficulties with the gate not opening. I was right behind it. The car started to back up so I also went into reverse. As I was backing up, one of the toll attendants approached the car ahead of me so I stopped backing up. After about 2 minutes the gate is opened and the car goes through. I proceeded forward and the gate is not responding to my smart tag.

    That's when I encountered the RUDEST toll gate person. He came up and tapped on my window and as I put it down, he started literally yelling at me "Lady, you violated the rules and now you gotta pay...." I had no clue what he was talking about. After a few more tirades about not following rules he finally stated that my smart pass became invalidated when I had gone into reverse and now I had to pay the toll directly to him.

    I explained to him that the car ahead of me had been in reverse and I did not want it to hit mine and proceeded to get out my credit card. This was when the next round of rudeness started when he proceeded in harsh tones to advise he could only take cash. Needless to say, I just didn't have it on me. That led to another unwelcomed lecture from him while I'm captive in my car and by this time there were other cars behind me!

    Fortunately the individual in the car behind me came up and paid my toll (although that was kind of embarrassing too!) so that traffic could get moving again.

    However I would wish that the guy at the tollway had had a better attitude rather than seeming to want to seek out a confrontation. He clearly woke up on the wrong side today! And I'm surprised that I was unable to use a credit card at the main toll gate....

    I'm very greatful to the stranger who was kind enough to pay my toll today!

    Carol,

    I had a nasty exeperiance with the greenway as well and called them. They are just as rude over the phone. I sent them an email a few weeks ago to the email that was listed here, no answer yet, and honestly I doubt I will ever get one. Can you let me know if they respond to you?

    It's a shame that we pay 3.20 or 2.70 to be treated so poorly. If you do get in touch w/ a rep from the Greenway - ask for Logan or Evan they are both mgr's and have been helpful in the past
