We came home (Southern Walk) from my parents' yesterday afternoon around 3-ish to our power being out - called Dominion to hear a recording that it was out due to "maintenance". I hope no one's Thanksgiving was too adversly affected by that. How long was power out?

it was out for almost 1 1/2 hours. it wasn't due to maintenance. they said there was a wide spread outage. unfortunately our thanksgiving dinner was ruined because of it! and i'm sure we weren't the only people in the middle of cooking our turkeys ;-)

I am soo sorry to hear your dinner was ruined! Luckily, I had put my 21 pound turkey in the oven at 11:15 and it was just about done when the power went out. I stood guard by the oven door, so no one would open it and somehow the popper popped up! Getting the side dishes was a joke, my husband actually lit the grill! Thank goodness I have a gas stove, and was able to make the gravy. Just as that was done the power went back on and we were able to finish up heating the sides in the oven.

My heart goes out to everyone who worked so hard on having a nice meal, only to have it ruined. It did kind of make me think of how fortunate we are to have what we have. Some people live like that every day.

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving despite the power outage. And Happy Black Friday! Now go shop!!

Our turkey had been in the oven for 10 minutes when the power went out. We waited for about an hour, then our neighbor (Hi, Caroline!) whom we were eating with fired up her grill and we cut Tom in half and cooked him on that. The power came back on and everything else turned out great.

We had just sat down to the meal when the power went out - so it didn't affect us; however we were thinking about all the dinners which may have been ruined. Had we not had the meal a little early this year, we would have been in the same boat - and we would have resorted to the gas grill as well!!

I was definitely giving thanks for the speed of the convection oven yesterday -- the turkey was done, but the sweet potatoes and pies had just gone in when the power died.

The power outage caused one of our (older) Openband boxes to crap out:) Good thing we already had the digital replacement on hand! :-D

We lost power as well - and thankfully had catered from Wegmans so everything was pre cooked.

I still had to heat everything up, - which was stressful because I had everything timed and mapped out perfectly but the power outage threw me for a loop! I threw some things on the grill for a bit - but then the power came back on so back in the oven it went.

Needless to say, the food was terrible. But at least the company was good - and no one got sick off raw turkey.

We're near Clyde's and we lost power as well. We had just finished eating but had not stored the leftovers yet. Usually we have a late dinner but this year we ate early (thankfully!). I think the outage may have had something to do with possibly an accident on Belmont Ridge Road because we heard many sirens soon after the power went out.

We lost power up the hill (on Ridgeway) in Southern Walk. Thankfully we weren't home for dinner, otherwise our timing would not have been good. And like a PP, we now have Open Band box issues - it keeps rebooting. Just need to find the time to go swap it out.

We lost power off Village in the SW townhomes near the shopping center. Our turkey was almost done, we waited 20 minutes for power, then also fired up the grill and hoped for the best. It took longer to cook, but it did keep the temperature up on the bird so that when power came on, we were able to finish it pretty quickly without turning it into a petri dish.
The corn pudding came out a little overdone and we cracked a corningware dish trying to makeshift a double-boiler, but otherwise we lucked out. Power was on in time to finish the sides. Hope everyone's thanksgiving was tasty!

I live on Ridgeway in SW at the start of the hill and we had power--I actually had no idea that anyone had lost power until I saw this thread. Sounds like the outages were fairly random.

Extremely random, since KLewis lives right behind me - we're backyard to backyard -and we didn't lose power.
