The Blockbuster Talker

I have to agree with jennzech that we should be mindful of what we say about others as others who read this may know the girl and tell her what people are saying about her. I'd rather that people remove this thread as this is somewhat inappropriate to be making criticism/fun of another young woman that can have ramifications on her self-esteem. Please think about it....if this was your daughter/son, would you appreciate reading comments from neighbors of yours?? I think not....

 

I can't believe how pathetic people are to pick on this person. You really have so few other annoyances in your life that this comes to mind to post? Really? The pain of not being able to rush out of a movie store to get home and sit on your couch for two hours. We should all be so lucky.

As a parent to special needs children, I can only imagine my future adult children doing the best they can at whatever job they are able to perform. It is a terrible thought that there is so little compassion and acceptance of people who clearly are not as typical as yourself....

Do we really need a thread that's sole purpose was to pick on a purpose? I doubt that was the original intent and that it was maybe meant to be good-natured, but I think it's gone too far in the wrong direction.

 

I don't do empathy and sympathy well, but next time I go to Blockbuster to rent Diary of A Wimpy Kid for my 11 year old daughter I will take into account everyone's feelings that I come in contact with except for my own. I will walk, so as not to destroy the environment. I will plant a tree along the way, heck, I will hug a couple of trees too. I will poll and survey everyone that I come in contact with to ensure that 1. They feel included. and 2. Do not feel slighted in any way. I will follow up my survey with a thank you card. I will then go to the cashier and listen, both actively and intently as she drones on about things completely meaningless to me. After 30 minutes of listening, I will get sick of her talking, but will not say anything in case I hurt her feelings. After another 30 minutes I still wont say anything because I know if i do it will only prompt her to talk more. The whole entire time I will be thinking to myself about all of the people in line behind me...about their emotions and feelings. I will glance at them with complete sympathy, maybe even a little admiration. I will donate some money to the World Wildlife Fund, Haiti, and I will clean pelicans in the Gulf.

Do you hear that sound? That's the sound of joy being sucked out of this thread by those that have misconstrued its intent.
